Largest data centre in Bangladesh to be setup for Army


Bangladesh Army is going to establish a new modular and world standard certified Tier-3 data center to build its Information Technology (IT) based infrastructure through signing an agreement with GrameenPhone IT Limited at Station Officers’ Mess at Dhaka Cantonment here.

Chief of General Staff (CGS) of Bangladesh Army Lieutenant General Md Mainul Islam graced the occasion as the chief guest. High officials of Bangladesh Army and GrameenPhone were also present, an ISPR press release said.

The centre will be fully functional by December this year. The new data center will be the largest ever IT infrastructure built in Bangladesh certified by Uptime Institute of the United States of America (USA).

The proposed certified Tier-3 data center is a step forward towards the modernization of IT system of Bangladesh Army.

This data centre will play an important role to digitalize and strengthening the institutionalized capability of Bangladesh Army.

On the topic, army need to make sure no indian contactor/subcontractor and/or consultant work on the national security sensitive project. Otherwise, this will be as good as telling indians here is the password.

On op of that unless army build its own isolated network, this data center stand no chance what so ever.

Army should avoid keeping important stuffs on Database, there is always a risk of hacking.

Have we been using the pony express up untill now?

Till now they might have been using a non-redundant datacenter and if that datacenter is shutdown for any reason, many critical military operational capabilities will be down. Tier 3 would provide redundancy or fallback sites to provide continuous critical military capabilities in case the primary center is shutdown which makes it less of a security risk and even the primary site will be unavailable for a less no of time.
