Why did he possess bomb material?

And bear in mind that picture is just an description and not 100% real facial expression of the suspect.

He wasn't the actual guy in the pic but a "helper" and not necessarily Turkish (passports fake).

Thai police arrest suspect in Bangkok bombing - CNN.com

Bangkok, Thailand (CNN)Thai police have arrested a suspect in a bombing that killed 20 people and wounded scores more at a shrine in Bangkok this month, authorities said Saturday.

The man, also suspected of involvement in a second blast a day later in Bangkok, was arrested at an apartment in a suburb of Bangkok, police spokesman Lt. Gen. Prawut Thavornsiri said.

However, he is not the man in a yellow T-shirt and dark-framed glasses who was identified from surveillance video as the chief suspect in the bombing, Prawut said.

"The man we have is not the man in the sketch, but we believe he is part of the network which carried out the two bomb incidents," he said.

Prawut initially said the suspect arrested Saturday was a Turkish national. But he subsequently told CNN: "At first we thought he is Turkish. But we just found out two Turkish passports he is holding are all fake.

"We also found many empty fake passports, also various kinds of evidences."

Prawut said investigators hunting for clues had "also found the same type of ball bearings in this man's apartment."

High ranking police officers, forensic experts and army personnel were all seen outside the building shortly after news of the arrest broke.

The apartment is in the Nong Jok suburb, an area known to house a large Muslim community.

The deadly explosion at Bangkok's Erawan Shrine -- a spot popular with tourists and locals -- wreaked havoc on August 17. The second blast, which occurred at a pier on the Chao Phraya River that flows through Bangkok, did not cause any casualties.

Does NATO protect them to against ISIS and PKK ?
NATO is just for christian european. They will only protect French white, British and Spanish. I doubt if China start attacking Turkey for supporting terrorism against Chinese , those so called NATO will help those thugs. In fact, all the while western europe consider Turkey as central Asian and non european. See how they exclude Turkey from EU and Euro for so many years despite Turkish begging them to let in.

Very likely they are illegal uyghur help by Turkey. Think about it, why the guy not to have romania fake passport or fake Russian passport but fake turkish passport? Turkey are known to harbour ISIS member and turn a blind eye on their atrocious in syria. They are more interested in killing Kurdish and PKK to stop separatism. But Karma is turning on these turkish for supporting East Turkey campaign in China. The PKK will turn Turkey into hell. :D

Turkey was admitted into NATO only for cold war soviet threat. Now Soviet is no more. Turkey being a NATO member is just a name and those western european will ditch Turkey in no time. NATO Western european members are more interested having more favourable trade with China for their decling , fund starve economy. What is Turkey to them? :D This attitude will never change unless Turkey conquer whole western Europe. Which I forsee will never happen in another 200 years time.

What does NATO have to do with the Euro?
There are members in NATO that don't use the Euro and members in the Euro who aren't in NATO.

Police arrest possible bomb suspect

Police on Saturday arrested a foreigner with a fake Turkish passport and bomb-making materials, the first possible breakthrough in the case of the deadly Ratchaprasong bombing two weeks ago.

Pol Lt Gen Srivara Rangsiprammakul, the Bangkok police chief, led a team of police and soldiers to search rooms 412 and 414 on the second floor of an apartment building in Soi Chuam Samphan 11 of Nong Chok district in Bangkok. The raid was launched after inveatigators received a tip-off that a man who looked like the suspect shown leaving the blast scene was staying there.

About 100 police and soldiers were involved in the operation and they surrounded the apartment building before moving in.

Police said the officers found a lot of equipment and bomb parts in the rooms, including 0.5cm ball bearings, the same as the type used in the Aug 17 attack on the Erawan shrine and the attempted bombing at the Sathon pier the same day.

"It is most likely he is related to the bombing at Ratchaprasong," said deputy police chief Chakthip Chaijinda, who will take over the leadership of the force on Oct 1. "We found bomb materials in his apartment."

The explosion at the Erawan Shrine at the Ratchaprasong intersection in central Bangkok killed 20 people, including 14 foreigners, seven of them from mainland China and Hong Kong, and injured more than 100.

Pol Gen Chakthip said it was "not yet clear" whether the man detained was the same as the one in the widely circulated CCTV images of a man in a yellow T-shirt shown leaving a backpack near the shrine minutes before the explosion.

"We found dozens of passports inside his room. We have to check which nationalities they belong to," he added.

Police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri was quoted as saying that police did not believe the man being detained was the bomber but had connections to those involved.

ThaiPBS reported that the suspect first rented room 412 on July 21.

Pol Lt Gen Prawut said that the arrested man was a foreigner, but refused to say if he was Turkish, as some local media had reported. "The passport you see is a fake," he said.

Images circulated on social media showed a Turkish passport bearing the name Adem Karadag.

An arrest warrant earlier had described the unknown suspect as a "foreign man", although a military spokesman said a connection to international terrorism seemed unlikely.

National police chief Gen Somyot Poompanmuang was at the scene on Saturday afternoon, where officers questioned the man before whisking him away in a black SUV for further interrogation.

Pol Gen Somyot said plainclothes police and volunteers with language skills had been sent to mingle with foreign tourists at places frequented by the suspects and near their accommodations over the past few days.

The information led officers to believe that several people including Thais were involved, Post Today quoted him as saying.

Police have come under heavy pressure for the lack of progress in their investigation of the attack that shocked the country, and numerous theories have been advanced about the perpetrators.

On Friday police Pol Gen Somyot warned against assumptions that the attack might be linked to the country's deportation of Uighur Muslims to China last month.

He made the comment after confirming that three Uighurs, among dozens detained for illegal entry last year, had been questioned in Sa Kaeo province.

Speculation has mounted after an analyst from IHS-Jane's, a defence analysis company, raised the possibility of the involvement of the Grey Wolves, a Turkish militant group, said to have been angered by the deportation of 109 Uighur people to China.
