An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Lakshya of the Indian Air Force crashlanded in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday.

The UAV crashlanded in an agricultural field at Chandamuhi village in Baliapal block.

“There may be some technical reason behind the accident. A team of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) rushed to the spot after the incident. There was no loss of life and property,” said Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Niti Shekhar.

DRDO sources said a technical glitch may have scuttled the flight of Lakshya and brought it down to the ground.

According to locals, they heard a loud noise while working in the fields. Later, they found the aircraft in a field.

Last year, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the Indian Air Force crashed in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan.

No report of loss to life or property was confirmed back then

Tests are going on , it seems DRDO Scientists are upgrading Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Lakshya.

Pilotless Target Aircraft (PTA) (named as Lakshya) is a reusable aerial target system. Lakshya is remotely operated from ground to provide aerial target for training of gun and Missile crew and Air Defence pilots for all the three Services. Delivery of five Lakshya systems with 26 operational flights for Air Force have been accomplished in 2001-2002. The first batch of Lakshya has already been delivered to the Navy. Three aircraft with Ground Control and Support System have been handed over and four operational flights have been conducted. Phase-I delivery for Army is planned shortly.

In parallel, a development project for indigenous development of PTA Engine (PTAE-7)

How much money even goes into theses drones, they are going to be blown up either way during SAM or AAM tests.

Astra is designed for an 80-km range in head-on mode and 20 km-range in tail-chase mode. The 3.8 metre long missile, which has launch weight of about 154 kg, uses solid-fuel propellant and a 15 kg high-explosive warhead activated by a proximity fuse.

Fitted with a terminal active radar-seeker and an updated mid-course internal guidance system, the missile can locate and track targets. It is difficult to track this missile as its on-board electronic counter-measures jam signals from the enemy radars.

As an anti-aircraft missile, it can be fired after receiving a signal from the far away target through its on-board manoeuvres based on radio frequency.

The indigenously developed Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air missile (BVRAAM) moved one step closer to induction into the Air Force after successfully completing development trials.

“The final development flight trials of Astra BVRAAM were successfully conducted over the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Chandipur in Odisha during September 11-14. A total of seven trials were conducted against Pilotless Target Aircrafts (PTA) successfully,” Defence Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The missile was tested in various missions and all sub-systems including the indigenous radio frequency seeker performed accurately, meeting all the mission parameters and objectives.

Two missiles were also launched in the combat configuration with warhead and the targets were neutralized, the statement added.
