Special force for polio duty
Provincial Health Minister Shaukat Yousafzai said on Wednesday that anti-polio campaign would not be halted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa despite repeated attacks on health workers.
“The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to continue anti-polio campaign in the province to eradicate the poliovirus,” the minister said in a statement.
The minister revealed that a new plan was being prepared under which a special force would be set up to protect polio workers and improve overall security of health staff. He said that the provincial government would not be deterred by attacks and save the children from being crippled.
“We have prepared a plan to eradicate the disease from the province,” he said, adding that under the new plan, a special anti-polio campaign would be undertaken in Peshawar on every Sunday.
He said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf volunteers and retired security personnel would be hired to accomplish the tough task.
The minister said that the KP government had asked for Rs4 billion from the federal government to implement the plan. — APP
