PESHAWAR: The Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is establishing a framework in which all its development partners will work in coherence for optimum utilization of resources and averting duplications.
This was disclosed in a meeting by Minister Elementary and Secondary Education Mohammad Atif with Cambridge International Examinations at Islamabad Tuesday where Secretary Education Afzal Latif was also present.
The Country director Cambridge International Examinations Uzma Yousaf Zaka, Manager Cambridge English Language Zara Shahid Khan and School sector Manager Amir Baig briefed the Minister in detail about the working and capacity of their organization on this occasion. Both the sides discussed ways and means how to avail of the services and experiences of the Cambridge system for improvement of standard and reach of the education department in Pakhtunkhwa.
The Minister Education KP informed that they wanted capacity building of their teachers in teaching Maths and English language at the primary level as they have started teaching through the medium of English from class-I, while on the other hand they are putting the assessment system on a strong footing.
He explained that they wanted to make the workings of all boards of intermediate and secondary education (BISE) transparent and improve their capacity for scientific assessment of students on international lines. With regard to the training of teachers, the Minister Education said that it has not been found that different donor organisations their development partners were working in isolation from each other due to which the training needs nor its impact could be properly assessed. On the other hand the practice is also not cost effective. Therefore, a proper and unified framework is chalked out and each development partner will take the responsibility it can shoulder.
Both the Minister and Secretary Education briefed them in detail about the reforms agenda initiated for streamlining education system in the Province while the representatives of Cambridge systems briefed them about the areas of their expertise. Therefore, it was decided that both sides will continue their consultations with each other and soon specific tasks will be assigned to the Cambridge English and or Cambridge Assessment so that their services/expertise are properly availed of.
