Kohala hydropower deal finalized

.
State-run companies of Pakistan and China have finalised a 30-year tariff at 7.9 cents per unit for $2.4 billion Kohala Hydropower Project of 1,100MW capacity in Azad Kashmir.

Thats quite a better if not perfect tariff considering its for span of 30 years, I must say.

.
17 per cent return. Ensured. Not bad at all!

You have a couple $ten Million lying around?

The real killing is 5,000 GW-Hr per year at 8 cents per KW-Hr is about $7.2 billion over 18 years (and $12 billion over the 30-year life of the project). Not bad for a $2.4 billion project.

Not even a build operate transfer...

Forgive me for this but Pakistanis are too emotional. Instead of looking at deals through an objective lens they see them through lens of friendship/enemy. This makes them blind to the robbery that is happening in front of their faces.

It'll cost you $12 billion over the 30 years. That isn't good at all. We pay something like 4 cents kWh.

This is the best time to raise the issue of Kalabagh Dam in Parliaments and every available forum. Indian threats of water treaty can be a blessing for Pakistan.
Kpk can be persuaded but Sindh will never accept it

First of all its not our money but Chinese investment and secondly we first have to get rid of energy crises so to get it done in speedy way we have to pay some price. Other option would be to wait till get some finances for this project and then start the project whereas we wud have lost billions when that happens. In current scenario its all about picking best among all the possibly available solutions.

Federal project Neelam dam which is also supposed to produce 5 billion units per year initial cost was Rs 84 billion but now over 450 billion and construction is still going on. So its better that China will build, operate and sell electricity to Pakistan for 30 years.

Sindhi doesnt even know whats going on its just jagirdar whos having plenty of water for their lands.. people from Karachi paying 1500 to 3000 for water tank what are they getting out of no Kalabagh..
we need to build it, its already too late..

Bhasha and Kalabagh both needs to be build, otherwise India will keep blackmailing Pakistan over water. Sindh cries about punjab will steal their share of water but in current situation there will not be any water to steal in winter if India try to play games with IWT.

anyway
Balochistan accuses Sindh of stealing its water

Kohala HydroPower Project

Land acquisition for 1124 MW Kohala Hydropower project is expected to be completed in December as 70% land has already been acquired, a news source reported. The hydropower plant is to be constructed on River Jhelum and it is the biggest project that falls under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

It is expected that development work on the project will formally start in March 2019. Kohala Hydro power Plant will produce 1124 megawatts of electricity, while the project will complete in seven years. The project is being looked after by a company falling under China Three Gorges Corporation. The same company will manage the project for 30 years, after which it will hand over the power plant to Pakistan.

We need to use same strategy for Daimer-Basha, Mohmand and Akhori dams. Let China build it and earn a profit from it for a certain number of years. In return Pakistan gets cheap electricity, water security and irrigation water. Win-win.
