I thought that the only difference was that base aircraft... that the Chinese couldn't get IL-76s from Russia anymore, and moved their whole AWACS system onto their on Y-8 aircraft.

This makes it seem like there might be some differences in the system installed. For one thing, the KLJ-200 has a glass cockpit. Anyone else got any thoughts on this - if KLJ-200 seems to have a modernized version of the radar system or avionics, are there many big changes/?

I thought that the Y-8 was essentially a Chinese copy of the AN-12, relatively old stuff. The Chinese themselves were working on a Y-9 which was supposed to perform as well as a C-130J, but now surprisingly they're actually buying C-130J's from the US.

Personally I would have liked if Pakistan could get the KLJ radar system mounted on an IL-76, the radial AEW system may weight too much to load on the Y-8/AN-12, but it gives a broader field of vision(smaller blind area for the radar) anyways.

Here's the same Chinese AEW system mounted on an IL-76, the setup the Chinese call the KLJ-2000. It even looks more impressive.

First of all, China has not decided to go for C-130s, and the US has moved a motion to ease restrictions for private organizations wanting to buy C-130, not for the Chinese Armed Forces. Its for disasters, fire fighting things etc etc, not for military.

Chinese Y-9 is in the pipeline and by next year, we may see a prototype. China won't buy C-130s for its military.

And PAF would be getting a round dish mounted AEW&C system on the Y-8, though it would be less in weight, size & specifications compared to the KJ-2000 system, but would be having hopefully 360 degree capability.

Thanks Waqas, any idea when we'd be getting this bird and what it's radar's range is? I believe that the Saab-2000 we have covers an area of 300 km over land, 450 over water.

And one second thing - any news on whether our AEW systems would be interfaced to form a combined system, or would both function independantly?

well seems like pakistan armed forces think tank is sleeping we had planes to buy U 214 J 10 and Awacs from china for last 5 years still dont know they are coming or not no deal was yet signed

no bro i am not in Afghanistan otherwise have a free tour to Guantanamo also.lol

c-130 type should be look for PAF we have only 4 good c-130s and other upgraded. need new staff man.

hahahahahahahha Imran Bhai Gunatanamo Bay is closed now anyway Imran bhai why our armed forces are lack luster when comes to buy stuff we are 5 years back on sub deal and J 10 i dont know ehat happened about that thing and also Awacs when we get those all or we never get these at all you have better info on these all things and i also agree that pakistan stop sleeping and buy something which mean to armed forces VIP planes to navy is rubbish and agree Imran bhai we need more C 130 and also few bigger cargo planes too for armed forces
