Kiwis soft on India’s NSG bid, Turkey backs Pak

If you're connect this with UNSC, then its all about power.

We have the Nuke Tech so we don't need NSG for that, Long Range missiles so don't need MTCR for that, but as 'high table' (not the usual members) participants on both forums UNSC becomes a closer possibility. We could have become members of both bodies several years ago, but we wanted to be in the very 'top group'.

Just a correction here,

India doesn't need MCTR for long range missiles.

India already produces 81 of 94 MCTR restricted technologies,

Some those produced by India include ICBM technologies like RV heat sinks , RV electronics etc

The 2010 MCTR Handbook has listed 94 technologies applicable to missiles:

For each technology a list of nations producing them is mentioned.

Idea of this list to get a status of missile technology development in some nations.

Number of MCTR Technologies produced by the following nations out of total 94 technologies:

India : 81
Pakistan : 39
China : 92
Iran: 21
Israel: 74
Turkey: 4
USA:94
UK:94
Russia:94
France: 93
Japan: 93
Saudi Arabia:0
North Korea:25
South Africa : 34
South Korea: 42
Vietnam: 0

Areas India is lagging in:
1. Propellants (Majority)
2. Space based guidance technology
3. Nuclear Effects Protection materials i.e against EMP etc.
4. Stealth.

MCTR will allow India to import armed drones and export its own space program technologies to MCTR members

Hence, my opinion that its about power. To paint this as a "prestige issue" is silly.

That's exactly what I said. We don't need tech from MTCR countries, which is why it was important for them to make a deal with India. Imagine you say only these countries will have missiles and another country outside this list shows middle finger, develops ICBM, sends rocket to mars etc. Your entire structure collapses. It's better to et that guy into the tent pissing outside and let him stand outside and gleefully piss into everyone inside the tent.

does it really matter weather its a power game or a prestige issue :azn:

thing is we produce or are in process of R&D or in a deal with australia russia , USA , Japan and france for almost all the techs one gets legal access to after bieng part of NSG in short both MTCR and NSG seat are stepping stones for permanent UNSC seat got it :azn:

I think this was the impetus for American backing for India's MCTR membership

As per wikileaks they were very concerned with Iranian contacting some India's missile technology supplier and criticism of India's weak export controls.

.
It actually is only a prestige issue. With this UNSC seat becomes easily possible.

Then its about power.

Of course it is

does it really matter weather its a power game or a prestige issue :azn:

Power and Prestige are closely linked.
