I am reading and re-reading this article to get some insight.

Very interesting to say the least.

Given the tension between China and Australia this is quite significant.

This tension was initiated by Australia although it needs an export market in China for its mining and agriculture products. China can substitute its sources but Australia cannot substitute the vast Chinese market.

Australia is acting more America without even insistence from that country. While the USA is balancing its rhetorics and actions, Australia talks only about friction and war.

Australia is not a technology country like China. BD can do without it and QUAD. Even considering what American companies do in the Latin countries, it is wiser not to ask American capitalists to come to BD. Their investment causes the local investors not to invest and grow.

BD can do without American investments and without recognizing Israel.

Mate israel is really not that important. Quad does not care about israel and BD need do nothing relating to israel.

Australia is irrelevant in the global scenario ignore them. Quad needs to come with open check book and lots of shiny toys and comprehensively outbid the chinese. Otherwise bye-bye.

What is bad about these western country policies is the line below:

Australia should build relationships with the Bangladesh military through military education opportunities and targeted exchanges.

For other countries, they would build relationship with the government. For countries like ours they are more interested in building relationship with the military. It's because they know that they can recruit people from within the military, use the military to topple the elected government if the government was not being co-operative with them. Same story in Pakistan.

I for one wont necessarily have a problem joining the quad. Alignment with USA is the underlying reason for the rise of E.Asia. BDs market and economic interest lies with the west.

As with everything one can always pivot to china if necessary.

There can be no permanent alliance between a muslim country such as BD with non muslims. They will always be transactional and timebound.

BD is not Wasim Akram , therefore will not be able to swing which ever direction as per hearts desire. Nor is the economy.


China and Quad/Israel has all the cards over BD. Both Chinese and Quad/Israel are interested in BD and are competing over it. Neither faction care what BD wants. They only care about their interest.

Ultimately. Whoever plays their cards right will win influence in BD. BD will swing towards that faction in terms of foreign policy. Right now. The Quad/Israel faction is in the lead. The Chinese are simply waiting until USA withdraws from Afghanistan. To play their hand in South Asia.

However. As i said. Any future co-op with the West in any field will require official recognition of Israel. Not sure how long the BD economy will flourish without working with the west.

You can't wait to be the water-boy of somebody ! Water-boys always get smacked around for peanuts . Every kind of refuge has its price.

As some Indian and Pakistani posters says BD is an insignificant country , I say continue to remain an insignificant country for next 5 years.
