Interestingly, the company’s production plant that is located at Bin Qasim Industrial Park is yet to get electricity, gas and several other utilities. According to Chief Operating Officer (COO), Muhammad Faisal, the company will start producing vehicles once the plant gets entirely equipped with required utilities.

Having already launched the Grand Carnival and Frontier pickup last year, Kia will now expand its product lineup in Pakistan with CBU as well as locally assembled options. Several Kia vehicles were spotted testing on the roads of Pakistan during the last couple of years, including the Grand Carnival, 2nd gen Picanto hatchback, Rio subcompact and Sportage SUV however it is yet unclear at this stage which of these vehicles will be assembled locally.

One hopes that all the utilities will be provided by September 2019 to enable timely production - finally.

I hope Kia wont be launching older generations and that too downgraded versions in Pakistan. Cerrato, Rio and Picanto have all it take to really take a toll on the big 3 in pakistan provided the full spec versions are launched with good country wide dealership network.

They are currently focused on pocket-heavy options like Grand Carnival & Sportage (to be launched soon) both above PKR 4.0 million price range. Though they did displayed the 1.4 liter Rio hatchback at their dealerships but haven't given any time-frame for launch. Having personally inspected the Rio, its gazillion times better in terms of quality than anything assembled locally.

As for Picanto, it was seen testing on a number of occasions but unfortunately it was the old second generation (TA) model that was produced internationally between 2011-2017. Lets hope they bring the newer generation whenever they plan to launch smaller cars..

Even picanto 2nd generation is better than the suzuki crap we have. Celerio being sold in pakistan is its only competitor but thats like 14 lac for a small car.
Rio, i hope they do launch the hatchback version as the Rio sedan is like the improved version of kia classic.. Too light and basic and without much to talk about. Hatchback is but a very respectable car in that size.
