KARACHI: The first day of August saw 26 more deaths in the city, with no let-up in the wave of targeted violence. It also spoke volumes about the government’s inaction and inability to normalise the situation in the city. Armed men also torched several vehicles and shops in various parts of the metropolis.

KARACHI VIOLENCE UPDATES:

Three more people were killed and four others injured in firing in Gulzar-e-Hijri and Nipa Chorangi on Tuesday (b/w12:00 am to 04:00am) while two trussed up bodies were found from Orangi Town. Five persons have lost their lives on Tuesday, increasing the toll to 31 since Monday.

According to police sources, unknown men opened fire in Gulzar-e-Hijri area that killed one man and injured four while two persons belonging to a political party were shot dead in Gulshan-e-Iqbal near Urdu University.

Two trussed up bodies were also found from SITE area Monday night who were later identified as Israr Khan and Rahimullah.

According to Imran Khan, chief of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, the two deceased belonged to his party. He further said that the government has failed in giving protection to its people.
Khan also urged that the workers should remain patient.

The violence started from Surjani Town on Monday morning, when two groups clashed in the Khuda Ki Basti area, and then spread to the adjoining areas of Yousuf Goth and Taisar Town.

Police said that during the exchange of fire between the groups, some seven to eight people were injured and were shifted to a hospital, where three, Imran, Habib-ur-Rehman and Mikaeel Khan, succumbed to their injuries.

Afterwards, tension gripped the area as armed men resorted to aerial firing, forcing traders to close down their businesses and also attacked houses in the Khuda Ki Basti and Taisar Town areas besides torching five shops. Moreover, two vehicles were also burnt in these areas.

The District West police team entered the disturbed areas and after an encounter with the miscreants, arrested two suspects who were alleged to be involved in the killings in the area. Moreover, the police have also arrested seven suspects on arson charges.

In Awami Colony, the body of an unidentified man was found. Police said that the deceased was brutally tortured and his body dumped in the industrial zone of the Awami Colony. The deceased was said to be of around 25 years of age but his identity could not be ascertained.

In another incident, a Special Branch official of the Sindh Police, Tariq Ahmed, 45, was shot dead in the Sharafi Goth area. Police said the deceased was targeted near the Al-Falah Bundh in Mansehra Colony on Monday morning.

Furthermore, two bullet-riddled bodies were found from the Pak Colony police limits. Police said that the bodies were dumped in the Dhoobi Ghath area on Monday morning. They shifted the bodies to hospital where one was identified as Ashfaq, a resident of Gareeb Nawaz Colony, Old Golimar, while the other remained unidentified. Further investigations are underway.

In the afternoon, Munnawar was shot dead in the Mobina Town area. Police said some armed men entered a shop on the Abul Hassan Isphani Road and opened fire on Munnawar and fled on a motorcycle. The deceased was a resident of the same area.

In the Site area-A police limits, armed men attacked a Suzuki pick-up, killing one person while two others, including a woman, got injured. Police said that the incident happened in the evening near Metroville.

They added that Saif-ur-Rehman was killed while Arsalan and Rukhsana got injured. All are residents of Gulshan-i-Bihar Colony. The case was reported at the police station.

In the Sharea Faisal police limits, armed men attacked a hotel, killing the owner and one of the staff members. Police said that the incident occurred at a fast food restaurant in Block-17 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar in which Hayatullah, the owner of the hotel, and his employee were killed.


On Monday night, Aziz Baloch was shot dead in the Sachal area. According to the police, the incident happened near the Safoora Goth area. They said Aziz was targeted by armed men riding a motorcycle.

In Sharea Noor Jehan police limits, armed men targeted a man and his son on Monday morning. Police said that the deceased were identified as Zareen Khan and his son Niaz Khan.

They added the deceased persons were standing outside their house in Block-S, North Nazimabad, when two armed men riding a bike reached there and opened fire on the two, killing them on the spot.

Meanwhile, two residents of the Eidgah area, Bilal and Abdul Qadir, were gunned down in Bhimpura by armed men on a motorcycle. Both died on the spot while the killers fled.

Two more persons were shot dead by unknown armed men riding a bike in the Aziz Bhatti area on Monday night. Police said the incident happened near the Aziz Bhatti Park and the deceased were identified as Shahid and Asif Baloch.

In Nazimabad, two bullet-riddled bodies were found on Monday night. Police said the bodies were packed in a gunny bag and thrown at a spot in Nazimabad No-3. They added that the deceased were brutally tortured before being shot dead.

In Baldia No-5, Shamus-ur-Rehman and Sultana Bibi were killed.

Moreover, in Bilal Colony area, armed men attacked a truck loaded with threads and killed two persons in the truck. Police said the incident happened on Monday evening near the 4K Bus Stop, New Karachi.

Two more bullet-riddled bodies were found from the SITE-A police limits on Monday night. Police said the bodies were lying near Mehran Kanta. They added the deceased could not be identified and were killed after brutal torture.

Moreover, in Mauripur area, Rahim Dad was shot dead on Monday night. Police said Rahim was passing through a street when armed men opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. One unidentified man was also targeted in Korangi No-5 late in the night.
