NEW DELHI, Oct 29, 2012 (BSS) - Opposition leader and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia today reassured New Delhi that Bangladesh would never allow its territory to be used by any quarters against India as she called on Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
"Bangladesh will never allow anyone to use its territory against India," BNP vice president Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury quoted her as telling the Indian premier during a one-hour talks at his official residence.
He said Begum Zia welcomed the constitution of a joint committee on the cross border Tipaimukh dam project but insisted incorporation of experts in the body and expressed her satisfaction over the progress in implementation of the Land Boundary Agreement.
Singh, Chowdhury said, told the Bangladesh's opposition leader that his country was not biased to any political party in particular but wanted to build friendship with all parties and people in Bangladesh.
Begum Zia held talks with Singh on the second day of her weeklong India visit when the Indian premier also hosted a luncheon in her honour while it was joined by India's NDA opposition alliance's chairperson LK Advani, external affairs minister Salman Khurshid, national security adviser Shiv Shankar Menon and foreign secretary Ranjan Mathai, among others.
The BNP chief's entourage members and BNP leaders Tariqul Islam, Reaz Rahman, Sabihuddin Ahmed and Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel joined the meeting and the luncheon alongside Chowdhury.
But officials said Begum Zia's scheduled call with President
Pranab Mukherjee was postponed due to his sudden tour outside New

During the meeting Begum Zia urged Singh to take steps to stop deaths of Bangladeshis in frontiers in BSF gunshots and develop ties with the neighbours in line with ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
Chowdhury said the BNP chief insisted justified sharing of waters on common rivers for common benefits as the life ad livelihood of Bangladeshis depend on the availability of waters in these streams.
Chowdhury said the opposition leader also expressed her gratitude for India's crucial contribution to Bangladesh's 1971
Liberation War.
