Key commanders of Gul Bahadur group killed in Datakhel‏ strikes: reports

PESHAWAR: Conflicting reports suggest that air strikes conducted in Datakhel tehsil of North Waziristan Agency have killed key commanders of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group.

The dead are reported to include Gul Bahadur, Sadiq Noor and Akhtar Muhammad along with thirty other militants of the group.

Some sources are saying that at least 7 key commanders of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group have died in the strikes.

Pakistani F16 jet fighters targeted the militants compound and a vehicle in Seen Tanga area of Datakhel tehsil of the agency.

Military sources say that the strikes have been carried out against the militants in the area but their identity and the causality figure is yet to be confirmed.

Hafiz Gul Bahadur is commander of the Shura Mujahideen in North Waziristan. He had signed a peace deal with the Pakistani army in 2006, which had been renewed in 2008.

Bahadur however withdrew from the agreement citing the military operation in North Waziristan as a violation of the peace treaty.

Bahadur is also reportedly associated with the Haqqani group while leading his own group of the Taliban in NWA distinct from the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

seems like a domino effect and I am not complaining. had the US drones succeeded in killing Fazlullah in Afghanistan then TTP would have suffered a major psychological blow. he Still must be wetting his pants and executing members of his entourage for spilling the beans about his whereabouts

God willing his days are numbered too. our operation against ALL foreign and local terrorists should be relentless and we must keep up the tempo. after the handover of Latif ullah Mehsood we must return the favor and kill or capture and handover some terrorists wanted by US/Afghanistan.

the trail of these news and new found cooperation and result oriented efforts would really reduce the playground for all other countries that want to use Afghanistan against Pakistan.

A suspected US drone strike on a Pakistani Taliban compound in North Waziristan tribal region killed at least four alleged militants on Sunday, officials said.

In Pakistan, two missiles fired from a drone hit a compound in the village of Khara Tanga in the Datta Khel area, two Pakistani intelligence officials said. The strike also wounded two militants, they said. The officials said Pakistani Taliban linked to commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur used the compound, but it wasn’t immediately known whether Bahadur was there at the time of the strike.

Looking at the success of these operations---it could be possible that some of the targeting information might be coming from the U S.

Also---the insurgence of ISIS in the middle east has opened the eyes of the U S military in AFG. A possible analysis is that they say the afg and areas of pakistan may slip into isis influence and before they let it happen---it was better to assist each other against the mutual enemy.

Hafiz gul bahadur had very unstable and shaky peace agreement with pak army, he had threatened to break it several times. Either you go fully against the state, like TTP or fully cooperate with state like late mullah nazir. One thing is clear, state wont allow you to operate as warlord for long. Its about time that these scums are sent to meet their makers. Pakistan, US and Afghanistan have a common enemy here and must work together to eliminate this threat. It seems after departure of Kiyani aunty, the Pakistans security establishment is making policies with long term solution in mind. There never was such a thing as a good or a bad taliban, they all were cooperating with each other. It was a flawed doctrine in the first place, as soon as the operation started in NWA, the effects are immediate. Fazullah is a priority target but right now he is worried about staying alive, thus making less and less contact with his commanders on the ground. Not to mention he would be paranoid about who to and not to trust. Pakistan needs to keep on pushing, and kill these scums for once and all.
