KARACHI - The Pakistan Textile City and Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) on Wednesday signed an agreement for 50MW uninterrupted power supply.
A statement said that the agreement was signed by Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Chairman Pakistan Textile City, and Managing Director of KESC, Nayyer Hussain, at a ceremony held at KESC Head Office. It was attended by senior officials of both the companies including CEO Pakistan Textile City, Zaheer A. Hussain.
As per agreement, KESC will supply in the first phase 50 MW uninterrupted power supply from their Bin Qasim Grid Station to Pakistan Textile City project and their industries at Port Qasim.
KESC will enhance the power supply in the second and third phase to total 250 MW as per requirement of the industries of the project.
The Board of Directors of Pakistan Textile City had recommended and approved said arrangement to procure uninterrupted supply of 50 MW of power for the Textile City project from KESC which was endorsed by National Assembly Standing Committee on Textile Industry.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ikhtiar Baig said that uninterrupted power supply was the main demand of the investors and considering the gas shortage in the country, the investors will have more confidence on uninterrupted power supply from KESC from their power station in the same vicinity Bin Qasim.
He was of the view that the Pakistan Textile City will provide state-of-the-art industrial infrastructure and environment protection compatible with the leading industrial zones in the world which in turn will provide support in helping the domestic textile industry to compete internationally, thereby enhancing Pakistan's earning potential, employment opportunities (by creating over 80,000 job opportunities) and skill development at all levels.
The Textile City industrial zone is being developed as an exclusive industrial estate dedicated to value-added textile products, with separate clusters for weaving, denim, bed linen, knitwear, towel, apparel, dyeing and for support industries like zips, button, thread, printing, packaging etc.
