While everyone was justifiably grieving the death of Aruna Shaunbaug ( a nurse in the hospital who went into a coma after being assaulted by a ward boy), another story came out about how the hospital cared for this comatose woman for 42 YEARS. When her family had all but abandoned her, the hospital staff never did and kept her alive and treated her till the day of her passing- almost half a century later. This needs to be appreciated. The sense of responsibility they showed shows that one monster in their system was not representative of their organization. They are a non governmental institution and are always in need for money. I would recommend anyone who can donate to 'give back' to an institution that has restored some faith in the oft criticized medical community. They've earned it- EVERY LITTLE BIT.

Mumbai Nurse Aruna Shanbaug Dies After 42-year Coma That Followed her Rape

Left bedridden, Aruna spent more than four decades being cared for by a team of doctors and nurses at the hospital. So thorough was the care that in all that time, Ms Shanbaug did not get a single bed sore.
"Nurses would clean, feed, change her clothes

Hats off to those nurses!

They were at the Center of euthanasia debate but they were sure that their oldest patient (Aruna Shanbaug) didn't deserve euthanasia. Euthanasia is not for someone who breathes naturally and obeys commands. These nurses had unswervingly tended to Aruna.

I saw a NDTV episode about this (last year I think) and at least one member alleged that the hospital did not seek the best possible option available and had vested interest in keeping her in a vegetative state. Bit like mother teresa caring for the poor and diseased(while the dedication is commendable, the highest attention should be on well being of poor and diseased, not piety, empathy and religion).
