Keel Laying Ceremony of 2nd Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) being constructed for Pakistan Navy was conducted at M/s DAMEN Shipyard Galati, Romania. Capt Imtiaz Ali, CNO (Romania), management of M/s DAMEN Headquarters (Netherlands and Galati Shipyard (Romania) attended the ceremony.

Contract for two state of the art, multi-purpose Offshore Patrol Vessels for Pakistan Navy, was signed between Ministry of Defence Production and M/s DAMEN, Netherlands. OPV will significantly enhance the combat capabilities and capacity for peace and military/ war time operations of Pakistan Navy.

Induction of both OPVs will further augment the initiative of PN for independently conducting Regional Maritime Security Patrol of Indian Ocean Region for protection of national and international shipping against threats of Maritime terrorism, piracy, narcotics, arms smuggling and human trafficking etc.

Offshore Patrol Vessels are very capable and potent platforms and will further add to the capability of Pakistan Navy. The installation of weapons and sensors on said platforms will significantly enhance the combat capabilities of Pakistan Navy.

Pn and pmsa can answer it but considering DUe to cpec traffic increase pn and Pmsa add ring more to counter threats from piracy smuggling etc

Not meant for opposing navy
May be option to arm fully when needed like in specs for Chinese ship to add missile systems capacity already built in or power radar etc

Ie asymmetric threat from smaller players and not opposing navy

CIWS costs a fortune

Its not a cheap thing to have on a warship

Even USN cuts back on them

anyway good to see fast pace of construction

1st keel laying was just 6 months ago
2nd one is coming on fast

overall good but steady progress

4 x Type 054A
4 x Milgem
2 x OPV
6 x cutters for PMSA 2 x 1,500 tons and 4 x 600 tons
8 x SSK
Turkish tanker
4 x Azmat class

I wanted to know if this ship can carry anti ship missiles in war times along with some short range air defense system like CIWS or FL 3000N

. . . . . .
