I know the title is stupid but the journalist tried to make an ordinary report interesting with the catchy title.

Kayani to brief Kayani on intelligence matters
Friday, April 09, 2010

By Shakil Shaikh

ISLAMABAD: Major General Naushad Ahmed Kayani was appointed Director General Military Intelligence (DGMI) on Thursday by Chief of the Army staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Naushad Kayani (Infantry) was promoted as Major General in March this year along with 29 other brigadiers by the selection board. With another Kayani taking centre-stage of the military hierarchy as DG MI, the present DG MI Maj Gen Mohammad Asif is all set to move to Lahore.

Naushad Kayani’s appointment as DG MI and some more adjustments being made in coming days and weeks, would demonstrate the future set up in the Army. In a related development, three major generals have been promoted as lieutenant generals. They include SSG jawan Haroon Aslam, Vice Chief of General Staff Waheed Arshad (who held DG ISPR position in the past), and Rashid Mehmood (presently in ISI).

However, their posting to key positions would be decided very soon with promoted Lt Gen Asif Yasin to assume command of Peshawar Corps within 72 hours, as his highly respected predecessor Lt Gen Masood Aslam would retire from Army after serving his one-year extended tenure period. Though three lieutenant generals including ISI Chief Ahmed Shuja Pasha, Lt Gen Tanvir (C4Is) and Lt Gen Sikandar Afzal (presently on UN assignment) are on extension, four incumbent lieutenant generals would retire from Army till May I this year.

Ahsan Azhar Hayat, IGT & E, will retire on April 15, while Lt Gen Nadim Ahmed (Corps Commander Mangla and Commander of Special Support Group for IDPs and founder of ERRA), Lt Gen Sajjad Ahmed (Deputy Chairman ERRA) and Lt Gen Ijaz Ahmed Bukshi (Corps Commander Lahore) would retire from Army on May 1 this year.

All the newly-promoted 3-star generals - Haroon Aslam, Waheed Arshad and Rashid Mehmood, would be adjusted against the positions the Army Chief finds most suited for each one of them.

In all, another batch of half a dozen generals including Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and incumbent Chief of Army Staff would retire, if nothing exceptional intervened, between September-November this year. This would provide room for the new promotions and appointments in the Army. Meanwhile, another newly-promoted Major General Ijaz Chaudhry is being given reins of Rangers Sindh as its Director-General in place of Maj Gen Liaquat.

"They include SSG jawan Haroon Aslam"

Lol! Since when does GoC SSG, a Maj Gen, become a "jawan"?

Its good to know that after Lt Gen Tahir Mahmood, his predecessor at the SSG has been promoted to the rank of Lt Gen. This bodes well for how SSG is committed in the future.

In the Army, it refers to the OR category. Certainly not the term for a Maj Gen.

I know that obviously, but referring to him as "jawan" was no insult. In fact it must be a twofold source of pride.

1. Jawan as in young = Old men love being called young
2. A recognition of him being humble

We're too much concerned about titles. People want to list all their titles before, after and between their names.
