Kaveri engine production in final negotiation stage:

kaverie will use snecma core, which is the most complex section of any turbofan engine. the core engine is proprietary own has in common with many other snecma engines and is impossible to copy. india will always depend on france to manufature that section forever, until they have a breakthrough in material science on their own..i don't know how they can still call this indigenous engine?

So would India require the transfer of technology for the core? Otherwise, this is definitely not an Indian engine. If this is the case, I would suggest India should scrap this project and focus on material science development and buy the whole engine from someone else in the time being until India technology is mature enough to make another attempt to create an indigenous engine.

Kaveri is actually Russian engine. These tests are just mock-up to show to USA that Russia never broke the promise and India developed on its own.

Snecma agreed to partner with GTRE in making a production version because they realised that India has already matured aero-engine technology upto 90% and its only matter of time that eventually Indians will make that last 10% happen sooner or later. So, its wiser to get into business rather than sitting on side and whining like Americans.

Is that answer enough, buddy?

Theres a difference between K9 and the production version of kaveri K10.

K9 will be certified by this year end and will be the first military jet engine developed by India. It will be used in trainers and as India gains expertise in single crystal blade technology, K9 will be upgraded to better thrust. Currently it produces 70-75 kn military thrust which is not bad all for beginners like us.

K10 is a stop gap until K9 achieves better thrust.

Iam Not much Into these Subjects, But If You are in anyway relating it to Single Crystal Blade technology, DRDO recently developed it.....And We already Possess Kabini Core for the K9.... For the K-10 is a JV where we would be using Snecma Core

There are two versions of Kaveri. One Indian(which is under-going flight testing in Russia) & other is JV version with Snecma(interim measure to save time required to re-design a new kaveri version with higher thrust).

India won't depend on Snecma for making core because Kaveri core has proven its reliability in first test-flight which is a positive sign.

Also, GTRE has begun design work in higher thrust Kaveri versions for future. So, I don't see any role for Snecma beyond this 100 to 200 engine agreement. Its not a permanent measure.

A lot of people are unhappy(as expected) after first successful flight test of Kaveri in Russia.

When one of Kaveri version blasted during "ground tests" few years back, western experts predicted that this is end of Indian aero-engine R&D. These experts are attending Aero-India 2011 now and eating their own craps in audience when GTRE was showing Indian work in aero-engine field.

So, learn to respect others & try to adjust with times. Its not surprising that it is Snecma(French) and not GE(american company) which is partnering with India in K10 project.
