Kashmir remark sparks trade war between India and Malaysia: palm oil businesses suffer

Futures will recover.. The difference between Indian-Malaysian imports/exports is very minimal. Exports to India are only 3-4% of the total exports of Malaysia. Malaysia hasn't even announced anything.. and India hasn't officially informed Malaysia about any possible trade related actions yet.

You guys need to impose trade war on China first. If you couldn't do anything to China, which has huge trade surplus over India, there is a remote chance that you will do anything against a country which is a equal business partner..

You will hurt your exporters, your exporters will get hurt in return.. Simple.

It's all talk.. India can't do anything just like they haven't done anything against China.. Instead, they have done everything to please Chinese president during his latest visit.
Seriously, you compare this small Muslim country to China? Even with China, did Xi utter a squeak about Kashmir while he was in India? Even as most Pakistanis believe China to be part of the dispute. Chinese are very practical.

Chinese maybe but Indians? Comparing India with Malaysia is delusional. Look at both countries.
You should know Malaysian history to make an informed comment. I won't argue as you are coming from a bias.

Of course Chinese are very practical. Why would they utter a single word while they are in India. India is a huge market for them. They say where it matters the most and you have probably seen them speaking in the near past, haven't you?

Anyway, you guys will not do anything.. and if you do, you will get bloody nose. It's not a one way traffic. You and Malaysia are equal trading partners.. Your economy is in distress and there is a remote chance that you will do anything that will hurt your industries exporting goods to Malaysia..

Why would we impose anything with China knowing that they have much bigger leverage than us. And we dont have viable alternative for the products. Also China is slowly opening up for Indian goods.

Diplomacy isnt some school kids fighting, if he shows you eye, you gotta fight whoever it is.
You choose the fight you can win. Its not just whim. People suggesting that "Why dont you do the same with China" are naive and think governments just act out of rage and whim and lack maturity. An analyst should at least understand that.

We have leverage with Malaysia and we can weather and side effects from the tussle with them. Not possible with China. Economy, Status, Power, Leverage change all the fucking time. Right now we have limited leverage against China.

We keep our neutrality with China because we can clearly see the benefits of it. The amount of Chinese companies investing in India is mind boggling. Chinese companies growth has stagnated or slowed considerable in China, and India is their second largest market with high growth. They create jobs, industry, and integrate culture. Just look at China how they used Japan and US to trade even if they hate their guts. Pakistan never understood this, that's why they are way too dependent on few countries and lose so much for their single minded hate towards India. All your favorite allies - Turkey, China, Malaysia do significant trade with India, yet you dont. Thats a reality check.

BTW that doesnt mean India China will become friends lol, we will be rivals and tensions will flare up on other platforms and areas. Its all about choosing when to play your cards, knowing when you have the upper hand and when to bluff.

Malaysia and India are equal partners in trade.. you hurt them, they will hurt you equally. All the products you sell to Malaysia, they are available with your competitors, just like you can purchase Palm oil from Indonesia, they can purchase their required products from other countries.

By the way, below figures are from 2018..

upload_2019-10-16_22-2-11.png

Out of $9 billion exports to India in 2018, only $1.5 billion can be attributed to palm oil exports. What about other produce worth $7.5 billion? I am sure you guys will not jeopardize your exports for the sake of $1.5 billion!

Simple maths.. your imports were $ 9 billion, and imports were $ 7.2 billion in 2018. You hurt their money, they will definitely hurt your money. But this trade war will definitely be more devastating for you guys in the coming months as your economy is facing a meltdown.

It is easy and much more beneficial for you to campaign against Chinese products as you find them plenty in your markets, but despite several attempts in the past, you couldn't do jack. The same will be the fate of this verbal diarrhea.

Don't know why you guys always think that they have all the power to pressurize other nations.. you guys are so delusional.

Informal meetings with leading Industrialists... government representative REQUEST them to understand why it is necessary... a report runs in newspapers... Government keep silence... and bang... things happen...

I really love this government on some fronts...

Ok... Thik h... but GHABRANA NAHI H...
Ghar me langer ki naan Kha lenge per Malaysia me NAHI rahenge... unki lat SE pehle he...
Nothing to be proud of here. This is what your Bollywood media does, hissing out of the tv studios with amplified govt propaganda. Of course Modi and Shah have to impose very little by way of legislation, because the Indian nation is by majority a bunch of Hindutva brainwashed haters of logic, reason and pragmatism.

Hindustan already equates "Islam" with "evil" and "invasion by foreigners". Modi and Shah have nothing to add. You lot elected people who reflect your world view perfectly. Never can you see Pakistan, Kashmir, Malaysia, Turkey through any lens other than "Islamic ummah extremists". Never can you accept that they have a point regarding Kashmir simply from a logical or democratic angle.

The pathetic inferiority complex of Hindustan continues.

Fyi, this is what happens when you try to punch above your weight.

MAHATHIR TRIGGERS HIS OWN DOWNFALL – HIS INSULTING TONGUE & CHILD-LIKE WISH TO SHOWOFF ON GLOBAL STAGE BACKFIRES, KILLING OFF THE LIVELIHOOD OF MILLIONS OF MALAY FARMERS DEPENDENT ON PALM OIL FOR THEIR ALREADY THINNING INCOME

Specifically look for comments.

Truth told bluntly.
Yes, Mr. Mahathir knew India was about to launch a trade war against Malaysia. But there was nothing he could do except to act brave (give him a medal) – reminding India that it will lose as well in a trade war because the country also exports its goods to Malaysia. Perhaps he should stop hallucinating that Malaysia is an economic superpower like China.

How is it your concern whether we can digest the repercussions of it or not. For national interest we have the gut to take calculated risks. Even if there is loss of trade on Malaysia front, we will take it as what they have said is against our sovereignty. People keep asking the wrong questions here.

Delusional is indeed the word.

RSS extremist leadership has become used to WAGGING THE DOG RABID i.e. India, literally, lol.

You have wasted a perfectly good answer on RSS keyboard warriors running rabid since Feb 27th, lol.

UNDENIABLE COMPLICATIONS FOR INDIA
  • India has signed a FTA with ASEAN
  • Malaysia is a part of ASEAN
  • Palm oil is a part of the FTA
  • Although increasing tariffs on Malaysian Palm oil substantially will not directly impact the entire FTA between India and ASEAN it will have implications and damage India as a signatory to free market agreements.
  • What ever which way the Indian posters dance, even rip their clothes naked here, FTA, specially on increasing tarrif on Palm Oil will have serious complications for India as it had promised to reduce tarrif on Malaysian Palm oil which it now has increased.

That's why I call you guys delusional.. because you think only Indians can take calculated risks.. No one is asking you any question.. you are being taught the correct lesson on this forum.. so thank as the opportunity of learning may not be available for you tomorrow.. and please don't quote me again on this topic.. I have many other important things to do than to engage with delusional Indians.. thanks.

Teach that to your IK who stopped trade with India and doesnt facilitate Indo-Afghan trade. I would be freaking rich if I had a penny for every time you guys contradicted yourself. The irony is not lost. BTW, we will act against any statement that is hostile to our sovereignty whenever possible. Maybe you should teach your politicians to too and not kowtow China's or Turkey's lines.

Ya right, the country running to IMF, KSA and China for loans will teach how to take economical decisions. Surely. Put on Ignore.

Man, I thought I would be successful in making an Indian understand the reality for once.. but.. I was wrong!
