Karzai offers olive branch to Taliban ‘brothers’

KABUL: President Hamid Karzai handed an olive branch Tuesday to his Taliban ‘brothers’ behind a raging insurgency in Afghanistan, urging them to come home, after he secured a new five-year term in office.‘We call on our Taliban brothers to come home and embrace their land,’ Karzai said at a press conference one day after organisers declared him the winner of the country's second presidential election.

The Taliban, many of whose fighters are based along the porous Afghan-Pakistan border, were driven out of Kabul in late 2001 by US-led coalition forces, paving the way for Karzai to take power.

Karzai said he wants people from ‘all parts of the country’ in his government.

He said he will welcome anyone from the opposition into his government and will institute reforms to stamp out corruption.

if the taliban want lay down their weapons and start a normal life just like the other people of afghanistan then they must be given this oppotunity by all means. if they stubornly try to finish off the state of afghanistan by serving the foreigners then they must be eliminated for good.

US seeks Pak, Saudi support in dialogues with Afghan Taliban

ISLAMABAD : The United States has decided to initiate dialogue with Afghan Taliban, and requested Pakistan and Saudi Arabia for their support in dialogue process, Aaj news reported.

Diplomatic sources told the channel that the US has decided to dialogue with Taliban in Afghanistan.

Main commander and Naib Amir Mullah Akhund from Taliban side is taking part in dialogue process with the US.

Source said Mullah Akhund has made it clear to US for not creating rift among the Taliban on the basis of money.

He also asked the US to take its forces out of Afghanistan as soon as possible so that government as per with the wishes of Afghan people could be formed.
