So the blame game has commenced! Karzai, as usual has put the blame on Pakistan for the serial bombings in Afghanistan that killed 55 Afghans, blaming the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi which is based in Pakistan and according to him, supported by Pakistan's 'Intellegence Agencies'. Pakistan has become the favorite whipping boy of Karzai who hasn't a clue what's going on in the country. But one can't blame him as he is President only of Kabul and not Afghanistan!

8 Dec 2011

Afghan President Hamid Karzai blamed Pakistani extremists for an unprecedented attack on Shiite Muslims in Kabul that killed 55 people, demanding justice from the government in Islamabad.

By pointing the finger at the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi militant group, Karzai threatens to ratchet up tensions with neighbouring Pakistan just days after Islamabad boycotted the Bonn conference on the future of Afghanistan.

Afghan officials fear that yesterday's killings in Kabul and the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif could unleash Iraq and Pakistan-style sectarian violence ahead of the scheduled departure of NATO combat troops in 2014.

Today, another 19 people died in a roadside bombing in the southern province of Helmand, bringing to 78 the number of people killed in just over 24 hours. Four people were killed near a mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif. "We will pursue this issue with Pakistan and its government very seriously," said Karzai as he visited wounded survivors of the attack after cancelling a planned trip to Britain and rushing home from Germany.

There have been media reports of a purported claim from Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, which is linked to Al-Qaeda and blamed for killing thousands of Shiites in Pakistan but not thought previously to have attacked within Afghanistan. "Lashkar-i-Jhangvi is based in Pakistan, therefore the government of Afghanistan with all its strength and international support will pursue this issue, Afghanistan cannot ignore the blood of its children," Karzai said.

Afghans traditionally blame Pakistanis for fueling much of the violence in their country, where the Taliban are leading a 10-year insurgency against Karzai's government and 140,000 Western troops.

His spokesman Aimal Faizi told AFP that Karzai will "demand Pakistan take executive measures... so that justice can be done".

There are reported links between Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, which was one of the groups involved in the kidnap and beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl in Karachi in 2002, and Pakistani intelligence.

The US embassy in Kabul confirmed that an American was among those killed yesterday, in the Afghan capital where the victims were buried at peaceful mass gatherings with police on standby for violence which failed to materialise.

The 19 civilians killed in today's roadside bombing in Helmand included seven women from one family and five children, local officials said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blasts, which came as the civilians travelled from provincial capital Lashkar Gah to Sangin district, historically one of the most troubled in Afghanistan.

Lashkar Gah was brought under Afghan control in July and three other districts of Helmand are due to shift from NATO to Afghan hands within weeks as part of the phased withdrawal of most Western combat troops.

Yesterday's bombings were unprecedented in targeting a key religious holiday, Ashura, which is the holiest day in the calendar for Shiites.

Frankly, I am not surprised at all. Any sucessful/ failed terrorist incidence anywhere in the world and the finger points at only one place. The epi-center of islamic terrorism.

are you being scarcastic or do you think these bombs and terrosists are supplied by RAW and the CIA?

pure jibber jabber from the mental patients

Shiias (most usually the Hazaras) have been facing physical and psyhological war since several decades now - in Afghanistan; he's just covering his own failures and his inability to establish order in his tattered country

it is claimed that LeJ was responsible, though i personally don't buy it --simply because there are tens of millions of observant Shiias in Pakistan -- why would they target Afghan Shiias when they can attack a much larger number of Pakistani Shiia Muslims (the way they did last year)

it doesnt add up at all; it's just a failed attempt by Karzai (and his NATO saviors) to malign Pakistan's name -- and to cover their own abysmal failures at having not secured Afghanistan during a period of over 1 decade and endless financial/materiel resources

here we go again... another thread on the same topic....

I know right? how can it be that everyone in the world can be so wrong about pakistan. they are all lying ...

wake up , throwing snakes in the backyard eventually comeback to bite you at home..

it's a smear campaign, and it's a miserably failed strategy

oh its ok Prism, i'd expect nothing less from you -dont worry :)

barely a couple days after the attack(s) took place he's already pointing fingers; he must have some special abilities

if only he could end home-grown discrimination against their own Shiia minority......we know what the situation is like for them in Afghanistan --regardless of what Pakistan does or doesnt do

The neighbors of pakistan have said following for pakistan in recent times:

china = Uighur terrorism

India = terrorism, bomb blasts, fake currency

Afghanistan = terrorism

Iran = terrorism, cross border attacks

i wonder what regional countries have said about india......Nepalese, Chinese, Sri Lankans, even many in Bangladesh who dont appreciate their citizens being killed and maimed by your trigger-happy honorable border security forces on that side

surprising?? Not at all!

who else is the big question? Whole world seems to be on the same page except the hub itself for obvious reasons.

What I'm saying is that this was a purely indigenous sectarian clash that probably has nothing to do with any outside agency nor Taliban. Why do you always have to blame the CIA/RAW/ISI even if a guy gets constipation? For heaven's sake there's a bigger world out there!
