KARACHI: Five women and five children were among 13 people injured after a low-intensity bomb went off when a Muharram procession was passing through Paposhnagar here on Saturday. A car, a motorcycle, a part of the footpath and some nearby shops were damaged.
Police said the bomb was planted on the footpath along the main road near the Khilafat Chowk, adding that the blast was heard from miles away.
Police officials said that terrorists had managed to breach security arrangements but were unable to hit the target.
They said that after the explosion, hundreds of charged youths marched to the Abbassi Shaheed Hospital.
According to police, the bomb appeared to be locally-made and weighed less than five-kilograms. It was planted near a police van, said Waseem Ahmed, Capital City Police Officer.
