Police officials have recently said that the armed anti-government insurgents based in the southern Kandahar province have strong support from Iran and Pakistan.

Kandahar Police Chief Gen. Abdul Raziq on Thursday while talking at a press conference in Kandahar province raised his concerns over interference by Iran and Pakistan and said that the two countries support and mobilise armed anti-government insurgents in the Kandahar province.

Even though the Chief expressed his concerns over the increase in terror attacks in the province but he said that most of these attacks have been neutralized.

The Police Chief said that operation against the Taliban is continuing but it seems that the enemies are better equipped than the security forces.

The Police Chief confirmed that during the clash they had recovered several Iranian weapons as well.

"Enemies are equipped with advanced war equipments and as you know, in the past Iran supported insurgents secretly, now they do it openly. Earlier Iran supplied arms to the insurgents through Kowita but now they route it through the south-western Nimroz province," Gen. Abdul Raziq told reporters.

The Police Official said that the security forces are facing shortage of weapons but still they have the ability to fight armed opposition groups.

The comments come in after the Afghan Interior Minister on his visit to southern Helmand province said that some regional countries, especially Pakistan is behind the terror attacks in the Sangin district of Helmand province.
