Kabul rocked by militant attack near airport: police

KABUL: Militants launched a suicide attack on Kabul shortly after dawn on Monday, police said, with loud explosions and gunfire heard near the Afghan capital's airport.

Several blasts and bursts of small-arms fire erupted for at least 45 minutes and were ongoing, with the US embassy sounding its "duck and cover" alarm and its loudspeakers warning that the alarm was not a drill.

"It's an ongoing gunfight and blasts, and I can tell you that it's a suicide group attack," Hashmat Stanikzai, Kabul's police chief, told AFP.

Stanikzai said he was unable to confirm the target of the attack, but the explosions came from close to the airport area on the northeast side of the city.

All seven militants dead at end of Kabul airport attack

KABUL: All seven militants who launched an attack Monday on Kabul airport died in the assault, Afghan police said, adding that no civilian and security force casualties had yet been reported.

"There were seven assailants -- two (suicide bombers) died detonating themselves and five others were killed in fighting," Mohammad Ayoub Salangi, chief of Kabul police, told reporters.

"There have not been any casualties to the security forces, and we have not (received) any report of civilian casualties so far."

Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the continuing attack on Kabul airport, saying that military facilities had been targeted by gunmen.

"Yes, we claim responsibility. This morning a group of mujahedeen attacked the military part of Kabul airport," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told.

Good Job ANA and other security forces!!! All Talibans killed and no civilian or SF casualty occured!! No doubt ANA can defend Afganistan!!

. . . .
Afghan has successfully repelled this attack in Kabul and showed that they have the ability to act their best during the crisis and have done well May God bless and good luck at all times to win against all evil intent of the enemy:sniper:

Lol at hilarious cheer leading on this thread. Most kids here choose to ignore that Taliban are attacking most secured parts of the capital of Afghanistan with ease and comfort even after 11 years of war.

As for ANA defending Afghanistan, we all can see that when an ANA soldier turned his guns on his foreign trainers a few days ago.

EPIC FAILURE HAHAHA.

And this is how these retarted moron talibs will be taking over afghanistan post 2014?/

What a bunch of losers...

They surely have epic failures or high casaulty rates, but it is their peristance and resilience which is troublesome...for every two or three NATO soldiers they have killed, dozens of talibs have died in doing so....they replenish their losses, recover and attacks again....

.
Congrats to Afghan security forces if they have handled the militants by themeselves.....
I think if economic aid to Afghanistan is sustained after 2014, ANA can keep the situation in future like nowadays....their main issues are desertions and lack of level of commitment that taliban have. the most troublesome guys for ANA would be haqqani network which is backed by Pakistan...
Afghan governament should reconcilate Afghan taliban but isolate ISI's friend haqqani networks who are linked with alqaida and other foriegn militants.
