Russian Helicopters and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have registered a joint venture (JV) for the production of Ka-226T light helicopters in India, Russian Helicopters announced on 19 June.
Russia and India signed a helicopter production agreement for the Ka-226T in 2015. Under the agreement, up to 200 of the type and modification equipment will be produced in India.
The newly registered JV will perform final assembly and repair of helicopters, as well as act as an integrator of the Indian supplier chain. It is expected that up to 35 Ka-226T helicopters will be produced every year with the possibility to increase production volumes.
It is planned that the Arrius 2G1 engines for the Indian Ka-226T will be organised at the JV of Safran and HAL established last year to perform maintenance of the power plants.
