Featured K-2 nuclear power plant connected to grid

.
Why so many nuclear plants near a big population? And these power plant throw their hot water directly into sea thus causing a large scale sea life deaths.
I don't get this obsession with nuclear, and that too that near that large population of Karachi....
The cooling water thrown into sea has a maximum delta of 2 (ie just 2 C above the sea water temperature)

It's a great achievement but we shouldn't build too many nuke plants as disposing of the waste material is a huge problem. We need to stay focused on renewal energy, and setup terra watt solar and wind farms. The mighty Indus river and tributaries can have hydro power generators inserted for local electricity needs. In these modular turbines are driven by the water flow of the river.

All these mentioned technologies are good for load following. For base load (minimum required energy level) we need power plants that run 24/7 and produce cheap electricity

Pakistan needs 5 more of these to get rid of oil based electrical production

you can use the reactor fuel for weapons right?

Wrong, it is strictly prohibited, and Pakistan does not need to either

We have the Khushab reactors to deliver us the plutonium capabilities we need, and keeping our civilian and nuclear programs totally separate creates respect and value in the world because it showcases a mature nuclear industry, and is a primary requirement for the NSG membership.

HOw many nuclear power plants are under construction in pakistan?

. . . .
But why buying so expensive ?Two reactor for 9.5 billion dollars are they crazy or what in that amount they could build at least 3 of them without any ToT and thing is technology is limited to military no input/exploration allowed for civilian like Russia. We must learn from China and America every involvement of civilian is there and they can get benefit from it for civilian uses.

more capacity payments?

Production of Electricity via nuclear plants is very cheap compared to fossil fuels of all types. 3rd gen power plants are also very efficient so expect cost to be around 5-7cent per unit. If we use this instead of fossil fuel plants in net sum despite capacity payments will save us lot of money.

For reference we currently furnace oil plants cost us 24Rs per unit. LNG plants are 17-20 Rs per unit. Coal plants are around 12-15 Rs per unit. For nuclear it will be around 7-10Rs approx per unit. Goal here is to disconnect inefficient LNG plants.

Just as i expected Nuclear is between 7-10Rs per unit.

No matter how mature we act, we are not going to get membership to NSG courtesy of the US.

Agreed but this primarily due to the fact that the gov't writ does not apply to the religious elements in Pakistan. For example, there were demonstrations against Macron's defense of the cartoons of the Holy Prophet ( PBUH) in October but nothing on the scale as in Pakistan & Afghanistan. In most Middle Eastern countries it was limited to the boycott of the French goods but no one demanded the expulsion of all French nationals and cutting off diplomatic relations.

Whereas In Pakistan gov't acquiesced to TLP demand and promised to propose the bill in the National Assembly. A week before the TLP deadline, they have again brought the country to a standstill, killed 4 policemen, damaged a police station, and kidnapped several including a DSP. Nothing like this can happen in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, or UAE. Many Western Gov'ts, therefore, have the genuine fear that the possibility of religious zealots getting hold of Pakistan's nuclear weapons cannot be ruled out.

I am not defending Macron's action. My point is that until such time that GOP's writ prevails over the religious militancy; despite our best efforts Western view of Pakistan as a hotbed of religious militancy will not change.

It is only in Pakistan that we consider destroying gov't and private property in Pakistan will force a foreign country to change its religious policies and regrettably, even the political elite exploit the situation to their advantage when they are out of power as Imran Khan did in the case of Faizabad dharna. This is certainly not acting maturely.

Not because of their so called maturity but rather authoritarian rule where people get disappeared at the slightest disagreement. Jamal Khashoggi was one such example.
No matter how weak our system is we still are a democracy where people are allowed to express their opinion no matter how stupid it sounds.
And if we dont than the same west lectures us on human right abuse etc.
When i say we will never enter NSG, it is because of the hypocrisy of the West.
As for protests, not too long ago blacks were protesting all across the US with hashtag black lives matter, how people got killed in that?
Than when trump lost and his supporters stormed Capitol hill, those were armed guys and senators had to go into a tunnel to safe their lives nobody questioned US ability to safeguard its nuclear arsenal.
Yes we are not perfect but no one is so Its high time we stop looking for mistakes within ourselves and start calling the western hypocrisy for what it really is.
