watching this clip and I'm just wondering just how effective these VBIEDs are against armor. looks like most of the targets are up-armored humvees,MRAPs, and M1 Abrams.

first off the VBIED. what is normally used for the explosive??? and how much? seems like most of the energy is going up and not lateral. it's not like a HEAT or EFP that focuses all that energy into a small point.

I don't think the up-armored humvees stand a chance, but MRAPs and M1 seem immune.

What i see is Poor Planning , no road blocks or look-outs ? Seriously Iraq ?
The VBIED is driving right between the convoys and detonating , there is no look out on roofs of any house with RPG to at least try to stop or hit them ? no trenches or road blocks too ? sad

ISIS got the advantage. they chose where and when they will attack.

Iraq needs 100 BMPT. ATGM to take over VBIED from a long distance, and the dual 30mm to hit'em when they are close in.

What i think they need is some Sense the most .. putting lookout on roof with RPG's and road blocks is what the force needs to do when holding up an area .. what are they expecting from ISIS ? come out in open and Fight ? Ratz don't do that brah

if only if it were that simple.
The video looks so cartoonish. Is it CGI?

probably looks like CGI because you are tens of gallons of gas going up. that's why you see the slow burning fireball. that's gas.

like I said ISIS can pick where and when to attack. you can have 23 hours of a whole lot of nothing happening, but when you let your guard down for 1 hour that's when they attack.

they do need to step it up though.

What they used for recording? It can't be UAV or satellite imagery.. Is it hover drone?

Last one on that with shows upon frame-by-frame, that VBIED isn't that effective beyond 1 vehicle distance even on uparmored Humvees. Explosives like like typically ordnance (i.e. recovered artillery shells and/or mines plus gasoline)

These are drone footage, from possible a RQ-4 or similar type.

The people being bombed is the Iraqi force ( you can clearly see Humvee, M1 used with Pickup Truck and BMP-1)

VBIED is not easy to stop. In my experience, even if you kill the driver, the car is still going to drive itself until they are stopped and the driver usually rigged with dead man trigger or impact trigger, so even if you kill the driver, you will still get hit by VBIED. The only way to stop a VBIED is to hard kill the vehicle or Mobile Kill the vehicle.

The only way you can stop these VBIED is to use Concert block to fend off the incoming vehicle, because if you use anything else, you will still get blown up.

This is useless in urban terrain. The direct line of sight within the city is about 5 to 10 meters, judging from most of my experience, VBIED usually carry a few 155 rounds, meaning it have about half a kilometre (500 meters) kill zone

From the force of the blast, It seems like the men in Humvees will surely be dead. MRAPs and Tanks may hold better but the force of the blast would probably kill some if not all the crew. There's no hard and fast formula here. The effectiveness of an IED is notoriously sketchy, it could be affected by the nature of explosives, the angle at which the force hits the vehicle, the colour of your socks and the rates for cocoa beans that day.

Insurgents use everything under the sun to arm VBIEDs. Could be fertilizer based explosives, could be RDX. Might be up to a ton of it in truck/tanker-based IEDs along with aluminium powder and discarded mortar/artillery rounds. They'll add whatever they find to increase the blast yield of the VBIED. In blasts of such scale and magnitude, its the shock wave that does more damage than the explosion and shrapnel itself in many cases.
