US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that he had spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping about Taiwan and they agreed to abide by the Taiwan agreement, as tensions have ratcheted up between Taipei and Beijing.
“I’ve spoken with Xi about Taiwan. We agree … we’ll abide by the Taiwan agreement,” he said. “We made it clear that I don’t think he should be doing anything other than abiding by the agreement.”

Biden appeared to be referring to Washington’s long-standing one-China policy under which it officially recognises Beijing rather than Taipei, and the Taiwan Relations Act, which makes clear that the US decision to establish diplomatic ties with Beijing instead of Taiwan rests upon the expectation that the future of Taiwan will be determined by peaceful means.

The comments to reporters at the White House – made after Biden’s return from a trip to Michigan touting a spending package – come amid escalations in the Taiwan-China relationship.

China claims Taiwan as its own territory, which should be taken by force if necessary. Taiwan says it is an independent country and will defend its freedoms and democracy, blaming China for the tensions.

Taiwan has reported 148 Chinese air force planes in the southern and southwestern part of its air defence zone over a four-day period beginning on Friday, the same day China marked its National Day.

The United States urged China on Sunday to stop its military activities near Taiwan.

“The United States is very concerned by the People’s Republic of China’s provocative military activity near Taiwan, which is destabilising, risks miscalculations, and undermines regional peace and stability,” state department spokesperson Ned Price said in a statement on Sunday.

Biden also appeared to be referencing a 90-minute call he held with Xi on September 9, their first talks in seven months, in which they discussed the need to ensure that competition between the world’s two largest economies did not veer into conflict.

Lets common sense prevails and US/China work out their differences peacefully. Taiwan is part of the main land China and rest of the world including US agrees to that and China is not putting any dead line and wants peaceful unification. Spoilers of the peace in the Taiwan straits needs to be side lined so they can die of the old age and at the mean time rest of the world must give time and space to China and Taiwan to work out the modalities.

In the US it is believed we are approaching a double Thucydides Trap, China surpasses the US around 2030, only to be eclipsed (permanently) by the US around 2060, due to demographics and China getting stuck in the Middle income trap. For the US, waiting out China, especially till after 2060, seems to be the strategy.

IMHO, for China, if she can build up nations, economically, that can be a counterbalance To the American allied economies of Europe and East Asia, in the rest of Asia, Africa, and Latin America, it can grow enough to not be eclipsed in 2060. It will need the grow to get out the middle income trap and spend to incentivize child births and fix the demographic issue.

If things look like they are going China’s way, peacefully reunification will mean on Beijing’s terms.

By 2060 US would've broken into many independent states during to racial strife already, by 2035 US will be no longer a white dominated country, a man made nation without bond of major ethnicities won't last long.

This is amazing news. As I understand there is no agreement or US law that protects India from being Balkanized into bite size countries giving up most of northern India to Khalistan, Pakistan and Chiba. Most of the west’s interests in India are in the southern part of the country, having say 5-6 southern Indian countries/ states would provide access to 100s of millions of people market completely dependent on the west’s market and allow them to have better quality of life. These people in the southern states have deep cultural asymmetry which is different from the rest of India case and point Tamil nad , kerala, Hyderabad to speak of a few.

What China fears most is that the U.S. takes the socialist road, haha

People are talking about the new Cold War. In fact, the Cold War has never ended, the Korean War has not ended, and China has not been unified.

Once China surpasses the US, there is no looking back. That's why there is a sense of desperation among the Deep State Elites.

Brazil, South America?

Well, Brazil is a very unequal and dysfunctional country. It has stayed together but it's basically hobbling through history.

In the US however, I think there might be a real chance of a White nationalist separatist movement because of the past glories of American history. They will feel like they were robbed of their country and they will fight for it since they are heavily armed, maybe in states like Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, etc. They will ultimately be crushed by the increasingly authoritarian US govt however. Also, the Democratic Party will effectively establish a one party dictatorship because the demographics will guarantee their victory every time. And you know how the Democrats govern, all of their cities turn to shit. Look at Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. These are basically turning into third world shitholes.

Don’t be too sure about that. Latinos will be thought of as more and more like Whites. Similar to how many Asians are seen. Not by all, but enough people will see it that way.

Correcting the Demographic situation and going up the technology ladder. If China can achieve those two things, then yes, there is a lot to worry about. Until then, the western countries think they can wait out China.

The us will only do just enough to keep the working force as productive at the lowest cost. The us economy is very efficient at extracting utility out of the workers. The Soviets, besides over spending on the military, bankrupted themselves trying to catching in lifestyle while they couldn’t keep up technologically.
