New Delhi: It seems the Maoists’ claim that they enjoy overwhelming tribal support does not hold water. A majority of the 1,31,433 job applications received by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the past three months are from villages where Maoists hold sway or have made deep-rooted affiliations with locals living close to jungles

The recruitment is part of the government’s concerted effort to train people from Maoist-affected areas, so that they can go back and participate in anti-insurgency operations.

“This is the first time that we have received so many applications in just three months. It is a clear message to Maoists that they are not wanted in those [tribal] areas, that people are tired of the mindless violence being carried out by them,” Vikram Srivastava, director general of CRPF, said.

He said the fact that more and more tribals want to join CRPF shows that they want to take control of the situation. They are coming out against Maoists in large numbers.

“Residents of jungles have been suffering the Maoist onslaught for years. They have seen CRPF work in their areas. They are now making a choice,” Srivastava said, adding that the force had been regularly setting up medical camps in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa so that tribals get basic health facilities.

He claimed Maoists were attacking dispensaries. So, CRPF has taken this responsibility and officers and personnel have been asked to set up medical camps in every village. “There are women doctors for tribal women living in jungles,” Srivastava said.

Raipur: Ten Naxals were arrested in the jungles of Narayanpur district in Bastar region when they were planning to lay land mines today, police said.

Detonators and explosives were also recovered from them, they said.

A joint team of district police force, STF and Koya Commando, engaged in anti-Naxal operations, arrested ten Naxals while they were attempting to plant land mines at various places in the jungles, Narayanpur district superintendent of police, Rahul Bhagat told PTI.

The team was patrolling in the jungles when it apprehended the Naxals and recovered 400 meter long electricity wire, five detonators and battery etc from their possession, Bhagat said.

He said the arrested Naxals were facing cases of murder, attempt to murder, charges under explosives Act and keeping lethal weapons.

All the arrested Naxals were produced in a local court, the officer said.

people out here have no clue how many naxals are shown the doors of hell everyday.its just this that all this cannot come out simply beacuse we would people n certain so called inttelectual groups talking and shouting about human rights....the recent attcak on tribals n civilians has sparked a row....maoist can and will do everything to stay in limelight.....the approach currently taken by the indian govt is correct...kill the leadership rest will fall,

It is true that many left leaning rich idiots ( i dont think that they deserve to be called intelectual ) would create a rucus if they hear news about Maoist being killed , simply becoz certain media outlet are too nozy and would leak the news without state permission
Hence the paramilitary prefers to capture them alive , than kill them
for example , last year 1100 naxals were captured , including 3 members of the maoist Politburo or chief body
but only 294 naxals were killed , and still people like arundati ***** roy and aperna sen hold rally in the heart of calcuta and delhi in support of maoist

arundati ***** roy and aperna sen hold rally in the heart of calcuta and delhi in support of maoist
I think they are over stretching the Right to Freedom of expression.
Indian Govt. should ban such congregation who give their support to the maoist's and arrest these people under unlawful activities prevention act .
