from mother's side, im also Syed. It is so ridiculous to the point of being funny -- to claim that ''Syed'' is a caste. It's just a title with certain ''connotations'' and nothing else.
it's funny to see the indians desperately trying to show that Pakistan suffers from this backwards caste system as well; in reality, no such system exists in the country. We do have feudalistic structure in parts of the country though that is more a social/economic issue and nothing at all to do with ''caste''....in fact it transcends religion.
Is being a "Syed" something that is imparted as an element of your birth? Of course it is....
So then what is the difference between a Brahmin and a Syed? Basically both claim that you're born into a certain title/position...
How ardently one follows it depends from person to person....
Indian constitution does not allow a person to be discriminated based on the caste system.....So laws are in place, their implementation may be a problem, but that is not an India only phenomenon.....
Individual bias towards a caste cannot be considered a state policy and cannot be applied to India as a whole...
Besides...looking at the Ahmadi situation in Pakistan, I hardly think the "righteous" sounding members should be commenting on the caste system in India, which is actually present only in backward areas (using Bihar, Jharkhad, UP and Orissa as examples does not reflect the situation accurately as these are the poorest and most backward areas in the country)
Wonder if completely excluding an entire community of Muslims just because of a different set of ideals that they follow count as caste discrimination (which it really is)....
Im sure the Pakistanis will not agree since it doesnt come with a tag "Caste"...LOL
Besides....if the caste system was such a hindrance to the Dalits, Mayawati wouldnt have been a god in those parts of the country....
Still waiting on when an Ahamadi or another minority can hold an office of importance in Pakistan without being assasinated...
