It's not a caste!!! I'm a Syed, it's not a caste! People in my family marry non-Syed's all the time with no problems. I eat food, pray, do everything with non-Syeds as well. It's not a caste!

This is the definition of a Syed:

from mother's side, im also Syed. It is so ridiculous to the point of being funny -- to claim that ''Syed'' is a caste. It's just a title with certain ''connotations'' and nothing else.

it's funny to see the indians desperately trying to show that Pakistan suffers from this backwards caste system as well; in reality, no such system exists in the country. We do have feudalistic structure in parts of the country though that is more a social/economic issue and nothing at all to do with ''caste''....in fact it transcends religion.

.
If you are saying a huge part of your country is a backward area, then I would agree with you. Step outside New Delhi, Bombay, Bangalore someday; & go into the heartland of Bihar, UP, Jharkhand & many other states to see the reality. I've been to these 3 states myself, you probably haven't.

It'll be better if Pakistani Hindus don't practice the caste system, as we don't want them to suffer the same fate as the 180 million Indian Hindu Dalits.

I have seen you have much hate for India in your heart and lying everywhere.

Cheer up dude. Have fun.

I know what you mean yar... How can a person belong to a caste when he/she is not even a Hindu. Right? But trust me, not only that they use the word "caste" to express whether they are Syed or Quraishi or anything, they also go on to find whom to befriend or marry on the same scale!

When you talk about Casteism in India (which is still somewhat prevalent - I can be your best witness), I also want you to realize that this evil did not come from the idea itself. The corruption was infused by the selfish degenerates with time, but it does not mean the idea or the philosophy behind this system was flawed for those times.

In essence, what I am trying to tell you is, while this evil is being curbed in India, it is transforming into different dimensions in all the societies, and most prominently in the Pakistani society (My experiences are only with the Pakistani expats in the US and Canada). So blaming one particular society or a nation of practicing this malpractice is not very just.

I hope you know why the Boston Brahmins were called so.

The feeling is mutual and coming in greater ratio from your side and thats why we decided to have our own country.

so cheers indeed and have fun

I think Abu Zolfiqar's post # 98 answers your point about "caste-ism" in Muslims very well. I don't know what else to say to you. As I said before, Syed is not a 'caste', its a 'title' for those people who are the direct descendants of the Holy Prophet(S). I do not hold any rights over any other Muslim, although some people might respect/revere me for being a Syed, something frankly I see no accomplishment in. I can marry any non-Syed in the future. I don't know what else to tell you if you don't want to listen.

you people make mountain out of molehill !! untouchability is only in extremely backward areas!! majority of India (atleast major cities like Delhi, Bombay, bangalore etc) has negligible caste practice !! its not that you all dont know but you are simply trying to sattisfy yourself !!

"so what they are ahead of us, look at them they have poverty, caste system etc etc " again iam saying you guys are making mountain out of molehill !!
real picture is completely different !!

sir we have seen and your own intellectuals accept the fact that Untouchability is prevalent even in educated lot in India and that is where it becomes sad. one can understand such behviour in backward communities but again when you see educated Indians defending and practicing untouchability, cast system then it is the core reason why it prevails.

I agree with you but bilalhaider's posts are incomparable. such hate over internet forum is not doing any good but affecting our thoughts. we can have good discussions and fun but not like this. cheers.

i don't think untouchability exists now but caste system do. untouchability means a whole society is forbidden to even touch some ppl bcoz of their caste. i have never seen anything like that in my life. untouchability is past now.

No one is playing tricks on you. You just need to stop being in denial. Perhaps in FATA this might not be prevalent - but our Bihari bhaiya thanking you ought to know this.

Not only FATA but nowhere in Pakistan we have any preference over other Muslim in terms of our basic rights to pray, marry, eat together and so on, we all Muslims are equal.

These are all castes in the Muslim hierarchy and correct me if I'm wrong

Its a sorry state that Indian Muslims have more influence of Hinduism on them. the problem with recent converts is that while living among Hindu majority in India their Islamic values have been replaced by Hindu norms and customs contrary to Islamic basics.
- Syeds are considered the highest because they claim they are descended from Mohammed's sister Fatima ?

No they are not highest. One day a lady thief was brought for trial and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) commenting on punishment for her crime said "Even if she was Fatima (RA) [the daughter of Prophet] i would have given the same punishment to her for the crime"

This is how equal the family of the Prophet to all other common Muslims when it comes to Social rights and obligations.

Now coming to the point of Syeds they are given respect out of love for the Prophet (PBUH) and NO special concessions when it comes to social issues.

And Ashrafs are considered of noble birth while the Ajlafs are commoners.

bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha there is NO such thing or noble birth and inferior birth in Islam. and please dont give me ideas of distorted converts from India here.

 redifffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

yaar the problem is that pakistanis think indians follow caste system that was much prevalent centuries ago. today indians don't follow caste system that strictly but pakistani members do not understand that.

You want us to post from your own sources on cast based discrimination of dalit hindus in India?

and what is this strictly means? you are defending the system by hook or by crook bringing in France into it and saying look France as Classes lolzz and then jump to clans and tribes in Muslims but forget that we dont practice Untouchability.

LAST but not the Least: lets accept the reality both countries have own issues though different in nature and one must not jump the gun when you failed to solve the same problem in your own country and you are pointing fingers at others.

.
IAM SURE WHEN YOU ARE A PAKISTANI MUSLIM YOU WONT LIKE SOMEONE TO DEBATE ON RELIGION;) I KNOW ALOT ABOUT ISLAM, MUSLIMS AND ESPECIALLY PAKISTANI MUSLIMS !!

First of all turn off the cap locks as it is considered shouting and uncivilized in the civilized world if not in India :)

secondly a Hindu that too from India is not even aware of its own religion fully how can you be fairly knowing about Islam but still if you claim we can debate it in some appropriate thread.

where did i say that caste based discrimination is not prevalent in india???????????? i was just stating that there is some myth among pakistanis or let say foreigners that indians follow caste system in same form as was followed centuries ago & i m not a defender of caste system infact i m big hater of all this crap.

Is being a "Syed" something that is imparted as an element of your birth? Of course it is....

So then what is the difference between a Brahmin and a Syed? Basically both claim that you're born into a certain title/position...

How ardently one follows it depends from person to person....

Indian constitution does not allow a person to be discriminated based on the caste system.....So laws are in place, their implementation may be a problem, but that is not an India only phenomenon.....
Individual bias towards a caste cannot be considered a state policy and cannot be applied to India as a whole...

Besides...looking at the Ahmadi situation in Pakistan, I hardly think the "righteous" sounding members should be commenting on the caste system in India, which is actually present only in backward areas (using Bihar, Jharkhad, UP and Orissa as examples does not reflect the situation accurately as these are the poorest and most backward areas in the country)
Wonder if completely excluding an entire community of Muslims just because of a different set of ideals that they follow count as caste discrimination (which it really is)....
Im sure the Pakistanis will not agree since it doesnt come with a tag "Caste"...LOL

Besides....if the caste system was such a hindrance to the Dalits, Mayawati wouldnt have been a god in those parts of the country....
Still waiting on when an Ahamadi or another minority can hold an office of importance in Pakistan without being assasinated...
