They also scrappedd 10 small power plant project too. Netharland cancelled funding in river project due to Akbar's demand of bribe.

I doubt it will bring any drastic change in BD GDP instead a lot of worthless political project will be taken to apease the people in south and south west. There is nothing we have except Royal Bengal Tiger in that part of the country which can create much difference to the national economy.

I remember that there was a lot of hype over the Jamuna Bridge project. And yet, nothing changed in the north of the country. No industry, nothing.

We need Padma bridge no doubt about it for quick communication and I am in favor of that. But creating hype where my objection lies. And also taking political project which drains most of our resources. For instance running a Gas pipeline from Eastern Region to Western Region has no value to me when we will run out of gas by 2015. They already made plan to install gas pipeline up to Khulna. How stupid these politicans gets? They even had plan to have airport in the western side of the Padma Bridge!!!!!!

They even screwed Samsung $1.2 billion dollar investment proposal by asking them to go to Khulna when they asked for land in Dhaka or Chittagong. We lost a huge opportunity there.

According to ADB study Padma bridge will increase GDP by 1.2% By that count because of Awami League corruption Bangladesh already lost more than $2.5 billion of lost GDP.

There was allegation of corruption against Mosharraf Hossain then state minister for energy on Niko for taking a jeep/SUV. BNP forced him to resign. That does not say there was no corruption during BNP. But nothing this important to nation and this colossal where Bangladesh already lost $2.5 billion of GDP for Awami League Padma bridge corruption. Dont try to live off shifting blame on someone who are not even there. Also don't play ignorant by saying there is no GDP boost by Padma bridge.

The physical foundation was inaugurated by Khaleda Zia on 1994.

And far as corruption is concerned, I'm afraid things are very different now from before. Both parties have evolved into one of decadence.

I still remember in our childhood we used to see an extra line "Jamuna Surcharge" in our electric bill copy, whole BD people had to take part in Jamuna Bridge fund this way (which added value to the Bangladesh borne fund), an initiative taken by Ershad. No bal/bnp govt. can take such step. Effort of making BNP a less corrupt political wing is fruitless, last term one of their leaders even made a mine using relief tin.

You seem to having a tendency of jumping directly on personal judgement. Beforehand on a single comment on your quotes I had to know that I need to understand English first, I need to be permitted by you before commenting on strategic issues...lolz. Bond has 5% interest rate. Malaysian offer should be explored thoroughly. If Jaica and IDB stick to the funding, and another $1 billion from national budget, the rest could be from Malaysia which will drastically reduce the funding cost and the whole project cost.

Since, boltu posted big red banner, could you get answer for following questions?

1) Who are these people talking on behalf of millions of people?
2) Where they have been in last 7-8 years?
3 If they can fund the bridge why wasted 7-8 years, lost billions of dollars in GDP?
4) When Awami League regime looted billions from capital market, why would people trust any fund raising by Awami League?
5) What guarentee corrupt Awami league regime provide that these bond money will not be looted?

Corrupt Awami League regime trying to cover up their corruption by making this as funding issue. Funding is not the issue here, one way or another fund will be managed. Real problem is no one can trust corrupt Awami League regime with their money.
