There is a difference between a ferry tank and duty tank. This tank shown here is a supersonic duty tank. Nothing fancy, and already qualified and in service.

Sir, are you implying that it has been in service on Thunder for a long time now?

Don't want to speculate but rumour is due to lack of hard points, PAF maybe testing these drop tanks to be adopted in same specifications as in Mirages, remember centre hard point is always the strongest.

Mirages carry French design 500-600 liters longer drop tanks with bomb racks or RPK10 tank/carrier.

Unless pac develops a version for jf specially not sure if these longer French will works may be but would need testing

The picture of drops on jf are basically Chinese f-7 type 480-500 liters supersonic tanks with no bomb racks

Lastly centerline has no clean e due to retracting landing gear on the side

It would be additional capability of true multi role in single mission plus range as 2x 500 liters plus 1x800 liter centerline plus bombs and a2a sd-10 and pl-5s
