As part of the Indian Army and U.S. Army Yudh Abhyas joint exercise, the Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) and Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT) Javelin Weapon System proved flawless performance as an anti-tank guided missile.

Five Javelin missiles fired from the command launch unit achieved five direct-hits. The Javelins were fired by two U.S. Army gunners from the 82nd Airborne Division and three Indian Army gunners.

“In recent years, Indian and U.S. gunners have fired a total of 16 Javelin missiles with 16 direct-hits in multiple Yudh Abhyas joint exercises; the results speak for themselves,” said Duane Gooden, president of the Javelin Joint Venture and director of the Raytheon Javelin program. “These warfighters experienced reliability and user friendliness first hand.”

Javelin is the world’s only shoulder launched fire-and-forget missile system that is combat proven and capable of defeating any armored vehicle.

“Javelin provides a key opportunity to strengthen the U.S. and India relationship, and the Javelin Joint Venture regards it as a high priority. We are prepared to comply with India’s requirement for major defense procurements,” said Barry James, vice president of the Javelin Joint Venture and Javelin program director at Lockheed Martin.

Javelin is a fire and forget missile(lock on before lunch).

No, because they are not ready to share the technology for license production.

I heard decision on javelin is stil pending, missile is so good IA might even go with partial tech transfer. Can kill any tank on the planet 1 shot.If we equip all our infantry battalions on the chinese border with this baby, taht'll give our infantry great endurance against armour.

India should forget about TOT and just get the best possible weapon.

Doesn't work like that. In the long term, India will probably buy tens of thousands of such missiles on a gradual basis. To have an assured ability to build it makes sense. If for some reason, the U.S. suddenly changes its mind, we mustn't completely be at sea.

Even if it buys hundreds of thousands, its the policy of the US not to do technology transfer of the latest weapons. There can be tech transfer if India desires older generation of weapons but not the latest hardware.

That is the whole issue, if US won't sell the system with tech transfer then some other country will. It is not like India is going to be fighting any country that has the same capabilities as US, so buying the system from Israel or France who are already experienced in building such systems would be a better choice for India.

Because USA do not trust other country to keep the secret of our most advance weapon, so there is no tech transfer. In 20 years, a tech transfer is still possible. And even then, this would still be a potent weapon.

As for India itself is concerned, it has no capability of absorbing the most advance technology. So even if US transfer the most advance tech to India, India would not be able to do anything with the technology. So its best that India save the TOT money and use it to buy something else. US is not greedy enough to sell India technology transfer that will worth zero to India.

That is the problem but it is a problem for the U.S. too. They are losing billions in orders because India does not trust them too. U.S. is only getting those orders for which there is no comparable alternatives available or where the order quantities do not necessitate ToT. U.S. will have to find a way to work with India which is different from working anywhere else. If they don't do that, they risk being shut out from most large orders that Indian MoD will place.

But India wants the most advanced system, than the only option is to buy from the US. If India feels that inferior system is sufficient, than India should go for those other systems that is ripping India off with TOT.

You are Really Good on Jokes..
That was Really Hillarious. Mr. faithfulguy aka "NOT Chinese".. who is Super Duper Expert on Indian Matters .. Lol

( As if ATGMs were Rocket Science .. lol , Now dont Bring in Rafale+++ Here n Compare Apples with Oranges.)

India Has ALREADY Developed Nag.

Nag (missile) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And Javellins ARE NOT the Only Thing which exist on Planet... Ever Heard of the Israeli Spike ATGM ?

Good One. ( Explains your Stupidity in Remarkable terms.. )

In Late 50s we Got a reactor under "Atoms for Peace" and Now...

India has achieved independence in its nuclear fuel cycle. Nuclear power currently supplies less than 4% of electricity in India from 20 reactors. The units under construction include two large Russian reactors. A further 18 reactors are planned beyond that, including four more Russian units and two modern French ones. Plans are for 20 GWe by 2020.

India is a pioneer in developing the thorium fuel cycle, and has several advanced facilities related to this.

There must have been a Reason for Us to go for Rafale Rather F18s with Operational AESA and/or PAK-FA rather F-35.

Nag is not hand held but must be mounted on a vehicle. Otherwise, why would India need to buy Javolin.

But I don't think this deal will go through as US would never agree to TOT.
