This is BS.
Their have been periods when army has called the shots and other periods when civilians have held sway. Bhutto, in the seventies, exercised unbridled power and it was Bhutto who chose Zia over other more qualified candidates. Similarly, in the nineties, NS held sway over military. This can be seen in Pakistan's decision to participate in Gulf War 1 against the wishes of Mirza Aslam Beg. Later, NS attacked supreme court and fired COAS without any backlash or consequence. It is also important to remember the fact that both Bhutto's tenure as well as NS tenure proved to be disastrous for the economy to say nothing of political stability.
Likewise, conduct of Taliban Khan is not beyond reproach either. His pressure tactics against operation against TTP caused huge damage to Pakistani society both materially as well as in loss of lives. TTP's terror reign only ended when army rode roughshod over politicians and went into FATA after APS attack. It is another matter however that militants should not have been allowed to get control of FATA in the first place and responsibility for that lies completely with the army. Pakistan would have been a much more peaceful and prosperous place had the army stayed neutral after Russian invasion of Afghanistan. Bigger mistake was not taking a neutral stance during the cold war and being a part of CEATO and CENTO pacts which were a brainchild of the war criminals - the Dulles brothers.
Anyway what is past is past and cannot be undone. Given regional and historical dynamics and limitations, army has done a decent job in providing political stability to Pakistan. This is why army is a target of the enemies of Pakistan - both internal as well as internal. And sad to say that by its recent actions, army has provided just the right ammunition to its critics. By openly siding with traitors, army has rightly earned the wrath of of the awam.
I hate to say it but awam reaction will be much different if khudana khawasta there was another APS attack. This damage to army's reputation should be of great concern to patriotic Pakistanis be it civilians or soldiers. For the sake of Pakistan, we better hope better sense prevails in the senior echelons of Pak army leadership. Otherwise there are dark days ahead.
