Considering that Japan is likely to order F-35s, I doubt if the Shinshin is even going to leave the drawing board. It'd be too costly for the Japanese.

depends on what you're comparing. we had an extra 50 years of practice so it would be shameful if we were behind in this.

I personally believe it is almost impossible that Japan can make F-3 into practical, aviation industry does not like making electronics, it needs continuous R&D, capital investment basic science research and experiences for decades in order to be considered as a significant player in this field. After WWII Japan didn't even invest much on her defence industry let alone the money, capital and human resource sucking aviation field.

Japan is very advanced in some very narrow and specialised areas like semiconductor or material field, but building a cutting edge fighter is a systematic development, it covers few dozens scientific fields (easily speaking) and most of them it has very limited experiences. Take the classic F-2 for example, the simple fact is without U.S there would be no F-2, and after 20 years in service we didn't even hear one Japanese plane to up-grade the plane (c'mon even India has plans to 'upgrade' their not finished LCA)

its economy has been dead for 20 years.
its debt is so high its not even funny.
their fiscal revenues are falling.
their budget deficit is rising.
japanese companies are getting smashed by chinese, south korean and taiwanese companies.

Most of their debt is internal though. The keen challenges from the countries that you mentioned are real. It was since the "plaza accord" that the yanks started holding onto the Japanese balls for 20 years.

F-3 isn't even built fiction, and Shin Shin was an attempt to get the F-22 did you get it no ? F-35's.

Chinese R&D...Do you know the meaning of the word R&D....for your information Reverse and Copy Cat Engineering is not called R&D ...FYI...If you don have information how Chinese are doing R&D ...Let me know I will educate you on this… As you said you got cash…even Saudi got lot of cash…In short Japanese got brain….your third point STOP riding on other races PRIDE… In one line answer I am not Pakistani.

China does R&D ok what you said makes no sense we have built up our domestic industry however had other helps yes reverse engineering, every country took something from another, Saudis got cash yet they cannot build anything ? Japan got brain but still used Shin Shin to try and Get F-22 and failed. We on the other hand have both and are doing fine.
