The Japan Automotive Parts Industrial Center (JAPIC) recently started construction in Danyang city of eastern Chinas Jiangsu province. The project is jointly launched by the Danyang municipal government and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The center will be put into use this November.
The March 11 earthquake caused severe damage to Japans local manufacturing industry. Its auto export volume in April fell 67% to 255.3 billion yen, the lowest level since January 1979. Now, the Japanese companies, including small and medium automotive parts firms, quicken their industry chain transfer to overseas markets.
30 to 50 Japanese parts companies are expected to settle down at JAPIC at the year end, and the number will reach 300 in three years, said a local official at Danyang city.
Their moving to China is supported by JETRO and China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
