I don't care about whales, but Japan usually tries to play the good guys, but for whaling which most Japanese people don't care about anyway they're willing to have massive bad publicity

The thing is that it is some people's agenda to fight for animal rights no matter what. In general sense, its ok to raise awareness, but sometimes they get too passionate about it and ignore details. Questions should be like, how many whales do they plan to catch? Is there a quota cap stated? What species of whale is it? Is the particular species of whales at risk of extinction?

Most whales hunted are the Minke whales.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minke_whale

They are generally smaller than other types such as the humback, sperm, or blue whale. And they are more numourous and not an endangered species.

I don't care for whale hunting rights personally. Strategically speaking, yes, it does draw unwanted criticism. And what makes it worse is that the animal rights groups inavertly create a topic that attracts Japan bashers that only jump on the bandwagon in criticizing because their onjective is to just bash Japan even if without a care in the world for animal rights themselves. So all the critism is based on a weak foundation when actually looking at the details. In some way, not complying with the falsely based criticism is a good course of action.

Iceland and Norway do it all the time, nobody cares.
Why when Japan does it,its a problem?

I guess it's because they're not white. These countries really love whaling lmao it's just a weird issue, their people don't seem to care about it but their political elites don't want to let go of it even if they have to subsidize the whaling industry to keep it alive. Maybe it's because of how romantic it is to go at high sea to catch whales.

I'm not really against whaling if the whales are killed rapidly, it's always better than factory farming even if it's more graphic.

The annual Scandinavian killing of whales is from Norway?

Yes, Norway, Iceland and Denmark (Faroe Islands and Greenland) are the only European countries where they still hunt whales.
