Japan to remove swastikas from maps as western tourists 'think they are Nazi symbols'

It's been used by native Americans too...long before Hitler.

Honestly I don't think the average American cares..unless maybe they are Jewish.

Correct. I'm sure it was the Jewish sensibility that was "injured" when seeing this. Given how very effective Jews are in political and legal dialectics, many of whom even are fluent in Japanese , perhaps complained to Japanese tourism ministry.

It's always interesting to see such a minority , the Jew, can be so influential and vocal. :)

.
based on same logic japanese should also apologize for massacre and rapes committed in china during WW2 and also
stop provoking chinese by visiting Yakusuni shrines if not then
this proves japanese are nothing but hypocrites and have inferiority complex where they can bend over backwards for whites and look down on chinese.

Japan has certainly apologized for the war crimes of WW II.
Visiting Yakusuni is a different deal.
Honoring "the fallen soldier", I would not find offensive.
Honoring specifically the condemned war criminals of the Japanese Govt,
is definitely not acceptable.

How come a westerner decide if we can show swastika in our temples and homes? We do what we are doing for centuries. Swastika is a sacred symbol of 5000 yrs old Hindu religion. West should learn about it and understand that another westerner used our symbol for its evil cause. Hindus don't eat beef and Muslims pork so why don't western hotels remove it from their menu? It is grossly offensive to more than 30% of earth's population. Height of hypocrisy. But here Japan is in fault. They should not change their culture just because of western tourists. Freedom of religion is basic right and I draw swastika at my home and out side home during festival here in UK. If someone has any problem with it read something about Hindu religion Om and swastika symbol are most sacred of all.

As I have said in other postings.
It is the Japanese that have decided not to use it.
If Tourist have complained, it is still their decision.

Well it's still very legal to hang a Nazi swastika flag outside your house over here no matter what people think or how vocal they are

I don't have great faith in the west having much intelligence about faith issues. TYT is one of my favorite shows BTW. I'd recommend it to all forum members. It has nothing to do with me having the hots for Anna Kasparian :enjoy: @Rajaraja Chola this one is an epic fail.

Trust me. I am in Canada now. At every station, every nook and corner, Christians corner me giving me bibles, books, asking me to convert. Imagine Hindus doing this in India :o:

If I keep vivudi, tikka or sandal on forehead I become an "object" from which I needs to be liberated. But large percentile of population is good enough. But the radicalised part is more radicalised than in the East.

Even in the west, there is large tolerance for Swastika when it predates Nazi usage:

It was a famous aviation related "good luck" symbol in the West before Nazi Germany. You will see many pictures of aviators wearing it. Rudyard Kipling (who hated Indian culture overall) always put a swastik at the start of his books. It was a well known Celtic, Greek, Mesopotamian, African, Mesoamerican symbol.

I'm not even going into Eastern usage of it (since you have all covered it).

....and now we have an Eastern country banning its use because of PC like @Nihonjin1051 said.

Shocking and stupid!

Kipling hated Indian culture but wrote stories using our culture? :what:

.
LOL, but not confederate flag on state buildings, buddy.

;)

True..That was South Carolina...there's still some other state holdouts.
I believe the confederate flag is part of the Mississippi state flag.
its on license plates of Virgina. Probably some state seals.

He found us locals as intriguing and colourful....but in need of "civilising". The memories he had were mostly from his childhood and youth....so he had fondness for some of it....but let there be no doubt....he saw us as little more than a colony of savages that required imperialism to rectify.

Though to be a little more fairer to him, he also criticized the manner of British rule in India at certain times too (like if you read Kim)....but overall he was a big believer in white mans burden etc...

But maybe the use of the word "hate" is too strong....he did have contempt for a lot of it at times (but who could really blame him that much). At least he did make some effort in bridging the divide personally. Even today there is a saying....you either hate india or love india....you cannot sit on fence, but you will know right away if its for you :D.

Too bad Nazi did not use a triangle or square as their symbol as that would be interesting in today's world.
Too bad Nazi leader's name was Adolf Hitler and not John Smith. That would even be more interesting.

This isn't about Europe but about Japan. Japanese aren't bringing religious symbols to Europe. Some Jewish tourists in Japan are complaining about Japanese traditions. The average European isn't bothered by presence of religious icons in Japan. Only Jewish people like you are, so don't speak in name of all Europeans. You have the right to whine about it, that's true.

It's unfortunate that Japan made that decision. It's unfortunate that Jewish people stick their nose in everyone's business. At least now the Japanese people will change their views on you and be less pro-Israel maybe. You're only hurting yourself, I don't mind. :D

True. Canadian prime minister made a speech recently about the holocaust but did not use "Jew" as part of his speech so it angered the Jewish groups in Canada.

And Japanese think Koreans and Chinese are their enemies :)

They can always switch the pic to the Naval Rising Sun flag.

Too bad some easterners have an issue with it.

There is no point catering to the ignorant.

You just want to argue for the sake of arguing. If you actually read the comments, the swastika symbol used by Hitler is taken from the Buddhist symbol, tilted on an angle. So they are not even the same. Maybe you're against it because you're Jewish? or a overly sensitive man.

There is no point catering to the ignorant.
The point is, why should Jewish people have special treatment over everyone else? You can make fun of blacks and Asians it is ok? But when you disagree with Jewish views, you're automatically anti semetic?

They shouldn't. But the world works in a strange way. More often than not, it is the least tolerant who wins. To win in this world, people have to be obnoxious and demanding regardless how stupid and ignorant they are.

I'm just saying some people see certain symbols and have a reaction.

I personally have no problem with the swastika or imperial flag. I'm fine with both.
I don't think Japan should remove the swastikas and they should continue using the rising sun in their military flags.

But it looks like some people can have a nerve hit when they see certain symbols.
It doesn't mean Japan should change them to serve others interests.

Just proving my point.

Actually that part was quite new to me, really. Rudyard Kipling is still living in India, though not in past glory losing all the possessions, money etc and quite living in a place not quite liking to his pleasure.
Maybe yes. We grow up with what we hear. He might have influenced by his Grandparents and Parent version of India.
