Wil be interesting to see how Russo-Japanese relations unfold these coming years though. However i don't foresee any ground breaking alliance between the two. Since there is nothing that Russia can provide Japan that Japan doesn't already have(Japa is even more advanced than Russia), well apart from oil and gas(which JAPAN can/already gets from other sources in the middle east,Australia and Africa etc).lol. So apart from political reasons i don't see what Japan needs Russia for to be honest, its relationship with the U.S is farrrr more important than any rapprochement/benefit it can get from Russia, as the U.S has not only far more advanced technology to share with Japan, but also more influence over the region which can be of help to Japan for peace and stability in Asia.

But I see economic resurgence being a possibility and as Japan slowly moves away from nuclear power to renewable energy + non-renewables , the more Russia becomes pertinent. Besides, we have to be pragmatic about this issue. Russia's relations with Ukraine shouldn't be used as the determinant on Russo-Japanese intergovernmentalism.

In believe in 1-2 years time, the very limited sanctions we have placed on Russia should be removed.

End of the day; Ukraine is not an energy supplier for Japan. And at the end of the day, the Ukraine is inconsequential for us, irrelevant and a tiny economy for the Japanese. Russia , practically speaking, is far more important.
