JAPAN sets out plans to buy amphibious assault ships

@Genesis

I think that China has much greater concerns than us. Japan is blessed to be an island nation, since we do not share a land border , which would have put greater pressures on grand fources' equipment(s). China shares a land territory with Russia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, North Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan. So, naturally, it requires an investiture in a large standing army.

Not quite sure about your statement, a country that sitting on the ring of fire is not something that we Chinese' re envy off, the movement of the tectonic plates can create devastating disaster any time to Japan.

Japan sits atop deadliest section of Ring of Fire - The Globe and Mail

As for China, yes we have greater concern only if we make all neighbors enemies at the same time:lol:, this only happened on some lunatics such Vietnamese's wet dream , but we're also blessed to have so much neighbors, it makes China a commercial and trade hub, a direct and easy trades will not only accelerate Chinese economy but also make us immune from U.S and western sanctions.

@Kiss_of_the_Dragon scared the viets last time with his post. Now all of a sudden the 敗家仔became just a bit "realistic" for the time being.

We Chineses CUM in peace :D

The natural calamities are part of our character. Throughout Japan's history, tsunamis, earthquakes have always been a natural phenomena. That said, no one country is free from natural calamities, for example, even China is subject to earthquakes, floods. Remember the Sichuan earthquake, which killed some 68,000, the Yushu earthquake, Yaan and Yunnan earthquake recently. Natural calamities will always be a concern.

That said, we are very happy we are an archipelago. This makes our defense policy one that is a navy-oriented one. :-)

.
Really? But you Viets claim your navy can destroy China's fake navy in one day?
Who tells you that? Xinhua? Global times?

No, our navy needs tons of money in order to catch up with other naval powers. We used to have a powerful navy, like under the rule of Nguyen dynasty.

.
That's way Japan doesn't needed extensive land forces like the China has, just strengthen their Navy and Air arms to keep their adversary at bay. Unlike Singapore who has short of manpower to manned their ships, Japan with more than 140 million population can afford a large Naval forces

Well said. Indonesia knows very well , as another Archipelago nation, the importance of naval power for insular states.

Japan, as a nation composed of some over 6,852 islands and an expansive maritime domain, the naval firepower and strength is indispensable.

China's coast line is also huge, and since all our neighbours to the West does't require a strong force, our focus will also be navy.

On topic of Japanese naval additions, what are the realistic plans that will actually happen by 2019. You should probably include naval air power, or just air power in general.

Your navy need a lot of money to catch up to others, but against China's navy, you can destroy us with short range missiles from your 1980s technology corvettes built by Vietnamese. Plus, China's ships are made in China, it will sink by itself in one week?! Fake Chinese ship! According to some of your comrades.
@NiceGuy and others.

You know the great thing about internet is that anything you write is stored. Indeed they have posted these types of posts in the past and continue to do so lOL.
Go do a search at some of your comrades posts.

But really, I have no quarrels with you as you're somewhat of a sane Vietnamese.

I would not call Japan a blessed island nation, for it has hardly any natural resources and sitting on a couple of tectonic plates. Frequent earthquakes, typhoons or even deadly tsunamis are mother nature's love for Japan. It's a recipe for disaster if Japan still depends on nuclear energy. I'd say US is blessed because of 2 huge natural barriers and only 2 neighbors which happen to be no threat at all. China on the other hand is blessed with the huge area, different climates, lots of resources, connected with plenty of countries thus doing business is much easier. It connects thanks to these countries all the way to EU, the revival of the silk road is something natural.

There is a lot of earthquake around the world but sitting on the ring of fire is different story.

I can see where this can go, and in the effort to steer the thread within the subject matter, I will remind that we stick to the subject matter. But I will say this in response to you: The United States' West Coast, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia all are within the ring of fire, yet we have a bustling and progressive society and economy. Again, natural calamities are always a concern. And Government(s) must set up resources to be readily able to react to them.

That said, let us get back to Japan naval discussion. Thank you for your consideration.

This is also my main concern as Japan continues to use nuclear energy. Because Japan has no big pool, nuclear factories must be build near the sea. All it takes is a massive quake coupled with tsunami and boy another Fuku

I am impressed of your navy. our navy is just a shadow of yours.
Japan Navy is the No2 navy IMO.

Viet Navy is too small to compare with Japan and Japan Navy is the only blue water navy in Asian imo except Russian.

Maybe I miss interpreted what you were trying to say by comparing China to Japan's geography blessing...Ok I will not go further with the ring of fire :D, enjoy Japan Naval discussion.

South Korea shouldn't worry. Besides, we are conducting joint naval exercises with them this coming week , and contrary to what most people read in anti-Japanese news articles and blog spots, our military inter-operability is 'developing'.

S. Korea, U.S., Japan to conduct naval rescue drills this month

These Amphibious Assault Ships are nothing more than platforms to project our superior fire power onto enemy positions. These platforms will be used outside Japan's maritime domain , in the exercise of Japan's blue water naval capability. It may be used in assisting allied nations in the Persian Gulf, it may be used in the Somali periphery, it may be used in the South Pacific. What matters is that these will be indispensable components of Japan's global strategy.

The WASPs , partnered with our Izumo and Hyuga Class Carriers, Soryu-Class submarines, and plethora of AEGIS destroyers will be centerpieces of the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force.

Yes. You are right. We currently have 2 Hyuga Class Carriers, 1 Izumo Class Carrier (with the 2nd one being constructed). With the plan of having 4 active light carriers (which will be augmented with F-35Bs and Ospreys, as planned).

The acquisition of 2-4 WASPs will be necessary as these will be assigned to the JMSDF North Fleet, JMSDF West Fleet, the JMSDF South Fleet and the JMSDF East Fleet, respectively.

There are also talks in Japan military forums and defense circles that we are on the beginning phases of a Super-Carrier Plan. Most probably, 3-4 will be built to augment our 4 Fleets.
