But 15 republics gained independence from USSR but why Russia only targets Ukraine? it's Ukraine's pro west politics that brought this disaster to themselves.

Ukrainian fascists better stop their anti-Russian policies because if they continue to mess with Russia, their entire country will be balkanised.

These small irrelevant vassals states are always the ones that lose the most in the confrontation between major powers.

Absolutely nonsense. Ukraine is birth place of Russian. Putin is just a strong man protecting Russian. Did he go to Iraq and bomb the shxt out of Iraqi? Who is the real threat to world?

Japan led by LDP is heading towards suicide.
The average japanese should celebrate because when the US and LDP are fallen, they shall be free.

The West says she is going to cut off economic and financial ties. After Crime, Russia living standards sunk by 1/3. Now with Ukraine, their living standard will sink further by 1/3.

Inflation now at 9 percent will skyrocket to 20 percent.

In this game I see only two winners: the US and China. Not Russia. Nationalistic don’t bring bread and butter to his people.
russia will swirl down to israel & arab peninsula to get the resources.....

During the Meiji, Taisho, early Showa, three countries were possible primary threats to Japan. Those were Great Britain, Russia/Soviet Union, and the US. Japan entered into the GB-Japan alliance removed one possible threat. Relations were generally good with US while in alliance with GB. So that removed the second threat. Japan defeated Russia in 1905 and then later, Russia went into chaos in 1917. Japan's security situation was very good as those three possible threats had been resolved. Japan honored alliance with GB and allies by even sending destroyers to the Mediterranean to escort ally convoys.

That came to an end by the early 1920s as the naval treaties came with condition for forcing end of GB-Japan alliance. US turned a suspicious eye on Japan. And the Soviet Union reemerged as a major power by mid 1920s.

For today.. three main possible threats again. US, Russia, but this time China instead of UK (GB). US-Japan alliance resolves that potential threat just like the alliance Japan had with GB resolved that posdible security concern during the Meiji/Taisho era. Relations with China will continue to be rough because of key difference of stance on Taiwan.

Europe needs the infrastructure to handle gas imports from the US and Middle East (non-pipeline). Get Europe on 100% cheap nat gas from non-Russian sources and have supply meet demand, then finish off the Russians with sanctions on oil and gas. End Nord Stream 2 as the first step. Europe was unprepared for Crimea and this. Europe needs to do this or else we could lose the Baltic States too.

This will strengthen Atlantic ties.

It’s all the fault of the green lobby and the politicians for jumping on to it it’s not reliable enough to supply us huge amount of energy when needed.
And they got rid of there clean nuclear power stations to soon, then became reliant on putin gas to off set shortages from green energy

US now is not nearly as powerful as it used to be, what Russia did wrong was too dependent on the west before, but now situations changed, Russia doesn't need the west that much, actually the tables had been turned in the past couples of years, now the west needs Russia more than the other way around. and the building up of China Russia partnership can easily help Russia avoid major economic backlash.
Global supply chain now is firmly in China's hands.
The US has already overplayed its sanctions game. That’s why they are no longer useful.

Sanctioning countries as the size of Russia is only absurd, as they are blessed with lots of energy resources, and military might. These kinds of sanctions can only deter or cripple small countries that rely on energy imports and look out to IMF for their economic well-being.

Europe could always lift sanctions from Iran and pipe their gas through Turkey if things do get that desperate.

Just throwing it out there without considering any geopolitical realities.

TOKYO, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Japan on Tuesday said it stood ready to join the United States and other G7 industrialized nations in slapping sanctions on Russia, should President Vladimir Putin order an invasion of Ukraine.

Little by little things are heading back to the way it was before the Berlin walls fall. Very intriguing, becos the settings are very different this time.

Russia is not the military power Soviet Union was vis a vis USA after the end of second world war. For all its blemishes Soviet had a strong ideology that captivated minds all over the world. In many ways colonialism ended because of Soviet ideologies. Todays Russia seem to lack such a magnetic ideology.

America OTOH also isnt the economic behemoth it used to be. Immidiately after WW2 its share of world GDP was close to 50%.
Today it has a peer competitor in a ascending China, which seems to be a unstoppable economic powerhouse.

I am not so sure about Huntingtons Clash of Civilization, as the world is much more intertwined today. TBH i feel clueless about what ideology will dominate world landscape but i think mercantilism and geoeconomy will be driving factors.
