Do you know that last year Pongal was not a holiday at Indian gov offices in Tamil Nadu? You can take the day off as optional holiday if you want but the offices are open and you can go to work. People can go to these offices to conduct business.

Do you know its the same for makara shankranti also ? dont simply twist facts everybody has to take optional holiday if they want an off its not just in Tamil Nadu.

Only fools see everything as against tamilians.

Pongal - Tamil Thanks Giving has nothing to do with makara sankranti, their cultural significance and scale of celebration varies and differs widely. Hence your comparison of Pongal with makara Sankranti is baseless

Banning Jallikattu, celebrated in conjunction with Pongal was an obvious Indian Act against Tamils !!!

the amount of subjugation, oppression, hegemony by Indians against Tamils would need a separate thread. Here were are giving in small doses on an installment basis.

Let us make all holidays optional. People will choose whether to work or not in that day.

Make January 26, August 15 and October 2 optional holidays!

Bro stop taking everything negatively.

Makara Sankranti, Pongal etc are regional festivals hence its a optional holiday.
January 26, August 15 are national festivals thats when we got freedom.
October 2 -- > debatable topic depends on people views on Gandhiji.

Just because its optional day I am not complaining here in Karnataka or is anybody complaining we understand the logic behind the decision and its nothing with politics.

Maneka says jallikattu a Western concept

Jallikattu tradition is western culture and BJP is against it. The Supreme Court’s decision to ban it is a welcome step,” said Ms. Maneka.

Ban Tamil Nadu's jallikattu: Hema Malini

MUMBAI: On behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, veteran actor Hema Malini has sent a letter to minister of environment and forests, Jairam Ramesh, urging him to take immediate steps to end the cruel tradition of jallikattu. The letter comes just days before the Supreme Court hearing regarding PETA India's petition calling for the Tamil Nadu Regulation of Jallikattu Act No 27 of 2009, a state law that permits jallikattu, to be struck down.

The Supreme Court today rejected a review petition filed by Tamil Nadu challenging the ban on Jallikattu (taming of the bull). Tamil Nadu had moved the Supreme Court seeking a review of an earlier order that imposed a ban on Jallikattu. On the last date of hearing, the court had observed that the bull cannot be used as a tool for entertainment for human being inflicting cruelty. The observations were made by a Bench comprising Justices Dipak Mishra and R Nariman.
