In the wake of recent heightened tension between India and Pakistan, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has hinted at increasing the defence budget. “Defence will always be a top priority when expenditure is concerned,” Jaitley told NDTV in an interview on Friday.

“Whatever is required for our armed forces, will be provided for. It is the top priority for the government,” he added.

There has been heightened tension with Pakistan since the September 18 terror attack on an Indian Army camp at Uri in Jammu and Kashmir — in which 19 soldiers were killed — and the September 29 surgical strikes by the Indian army on terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC).

Idiots.
Yesterday Amit Shah was also saying that our armed forces are now modern.

@Abingdonboy @anant_s @PARIKRAMA @MilSpec @Water Car Engineer

Are these living in Australia or what ?
Point me out 2 differences between 2013 and 2016 in the condition of our infantry men.

"Not doing" is bad , lies are worse.

If he , as he says that he has concern for Indian Armed Forces , believes what he says , this very moment we should hand over a contract to MKU for bullet proof vests for all strike and pivot corps initially than for all after that.

Some days ago a defence page from Philippines was discussing how they chose MKU to provide bullet proof vests over an Israeli company , yes Israeli and we are here......

This time govt should increase the defence budget to 60 billion as after 7 th pay commission and orop we need more budget for purchasing defence related items.

Army has enough budget already ... Whole infantry modernisation let alone a decent helmet is plagued by mindless army top brass, increasing budget won't change a thing if we cant change these minds!

They will hide behind the clearance for AH-64Es, Rafales, P-17As more Pinaka, more P-8Is etc etc to justify their claims. When they talk about the military they are not talking about the grunts on the frontline.

To be fair, it is a combination of the MoD's continued inaction and the regressive mindset of the IA's senior brass.

This recent conflict will help speed up things

Modi has made it clear that he wants a prolonged operation at LOC
whatever it takes

Now the brass has to deliver ; there is absolutely no prospect of ceasefire

Since you pretend to be the expert, can you tell us how much of its allocated budge did the Indian Army RETURN back to the MoD ?
Well of years gone by these figures were relatively easy to come by but of late the IA has started to engage in creative accounting policies; towards the end of each FY they shift a great chunk In unspent CAPEX to their revenue account to cover their ever growing OPEX. The clowns are actually growing themselves when their soldiers don't even have the most basic of modern gear.

I remain very sceptical brother. Unless a comprehensive modernisation plan is implemented for the IA they are at least 20 years from being anything close to contemporary.

A lot can be achieved if the rules are relaxed

Money is no problem

Remember how things got speeded up because of Kargil

And then again after 2002 ; changes were made

Even after 2008 ; some procurement was speeded up

Every crisis is an opportunity

Modi's aim is clear that we have to step up the ante ; whatever it takes

Money hasn't been an issue for the past decade or so, it is entirely because of the mindsets of the IA, criminal inaction by Zak Anthomy and babudom in the MoD that this sorry state exists.

The damage is done, even if corrective measures are taken now it will be a long long time for the fruits to be seen; at least 15-20 years.

I'm not convicted yet that this GoI is taking a comprehensive enough approach, yes they are a step above the UPA but that isn't saying much at all.

They have been in power for Two years

They know the capabilities and deficiencies

Now suppose there was Nothing that we could do then we would have been QUITE
as we were in the Nineties

In case you remember 90s was a far more bloody period in the Kashmir valley and the LOC

But we quitely absorbed everything as our economy was bad
and Pakistan was a US ally

What about the billions already sanctioned?Army got nothing to show?
