J-11BS jets ready to deploy in 2011, Testing Completed

what's the expected role of this aircraft ... CAS/Interceptor etc . ?

. .
J-11BS's performance is on par with the F-15K Slam Eagle, the most advanced Strike Eagle variant. But the J-11BS has further reduced RCS, giving it a slight superior edge in terms of stealthiness.

.
It is basically a reverse engineered Su 27 with some additional goodies.

Only the airframe was reverse-engineered (and further designed). Everything else is 100% indigenous. Including engines.

. .
whats the additionals in J-11 than in Su-27? SU-27/30 also an air superiority fighter + long range strike platform?

I'll name all the J-11 variants.

In procurement/service:
- J-11A
- J-11B
- J-11BH
- J-11BS
- J-11BSH
- J-15 (variant of J-11B)

In development/testing:
- J-11D/E

J-11A variants share a lot with the Su-27SK, including radar, engines, etc.

J-11B is pretty much indigenous except for the airframe. That applies for all J-11B variants (B, BH, BS, BSH, J-15)

J-11B-Flanker-B-PLAAF-2S.jpg

New build Shenyang J-11B Flanker B fighter. The missile under the wing is a Chinese clone of the Rafael Python 3 heatseeking missile. The J-11B aircraft are typically painted in different tactical camouflage to the J-11A, with a medium blue grey upper surface, light grey lower surface, black radome, while the half ellipse grey area on the nose is overpainted with uniform camouflage (Chinese internet images).

The J-11B is not an exact clone of the Su-27SK, despite the commonly held view this is so. The airframe and engines can be considered to be 'cloned' but the systems are mostly unique to this variant.

Known differences include:

A Chinese IRST set located in the centreline position as with the OLS-27 in early Su-27S.

A planar array multimode radar which resembles the Phazotron Zhuk-27 series. It includes an IFF interrogator array.

An Onboard Oxygen Generator System (OBOGS). Only the most recent Russian variants have an OBOGS.

A unique glass cockpit design, with an asymmetric layout quite different from the Su-30MKK/MK2 and Su-27SMK.

An optical MAWS system claimed to operate in the UV band.

Dielectric panels on the stabilators not seen on any Russian variant.

The differences between the J-11B, Su-27SK and Su-27SMK are sufficiently great that this must be considered a unique offshoot of the Flanker family of fighters, not a subtype of the baseline Su-27SK/J-11A.

Its a good news they are ready to be inducted. Previously those were stopped because of some viberational complain by PLAF. IF J11Bs are ready to go, which they are.. PAF has another option to go for!

Better avionics and radar than the original Su-27 and usage of a lot more composite materials. Significantly reduced radar cross-section. However the most important aspects of the project are the usage of indigenious engines on the J-11B and compatibility with Chinese missiles. This will ease China's dependence upon Russian assistance to a great extent.

Don´t think China would export them. Illegal in first place and relations with Russia would seriously deteriorate, affecting economic cooperation. China won´t go for it.

I do agree with you on this, as the J-11 variants still share the bloodline of the Su-27 family, thus there will still be involved with copyright issue.

China would export its 5th gen fighters to Pakistan in the future, but J-11 was never the case.

where did you learn of this from?

can you explain more on Significantly reduced radar cross-section ??
How is it achieved???

Many western analysts claim China's newest J-11s are inferior to Russian Su-27s. They don't even have access to China's planes and yet they claim such baseless things.
