It’s not just the South China Sea: Vietnamese vessels in Indonesian waters show extent of maritime disputes in Asean

  • Of the 31 foreign-flagged ships illegally fishing in Indonesia’s North Natuna Sea from June to October, 21 were from Vietnam while none were from China
  • The findings are from activist group Destructive Fishing Watch Indonesia, which has called on Jakarta to take action against this ‘aggressive’ encroachment

An activist group has called on Jakarta to take action against the increasing encroachment of Vietnamese fishing boats into
Indonesia
’s territorial waters, highlighting the complex nature of maritime disputes in the region that go beyond China’s claim to most of the
South China Sea

Vietnamese
ships made up 21 of the 31 foreign-flagged vessels that carried out illegal fishing in Indonesia’s North Natuna Sea from June to October, according to Destructive Fishing Watch (DFW) Indonesia. None were found to have originated from China.

It is due to EEZ dispute between Indonesia and Vietnam, but we are going to solve it soon inshaAllah.

Lol.. Don't bring too much hope on it. Vietnam are very aggressive in their sea claim and the reason why they cannot do anything against China becos we got more fleet and far bigger coast guard like 12000tons monster cutter.

Best way is to share the EEZ or jointly exploit it . Only other option is to keep arguing over who owns the disputed waters, short of going to war. I see no other solution. So this has nothing to do with Allah but everything to do with human being and their greed.

Yes I believe too there is a big difference between Viet and chinese fishermen. Viet fishermen are poor, desperate, ride on rusty boats, while chinese fishermen are rich, ride on 12,000 ton boat. They hold in one hand a Huawei phone, they play with another hand with something else.

The thing is Indonesia keep wary of Vietnam and China at the same time
