What's new

Its confirmed now - Boeing has won the contract

Surely this is a bit of a moot point as this tender was not about SOF transport and the V-22 was not in the tender and the CH-53K was not ready to take part. What do you expect the IAF to do-wait however many years the CH-53K will take to mature and be ready for export all while the 3-4 MI-26s AOG time continues to rise??

Exactly and still 90% of the Chinook supporters mention special operations, troop transport or lifting M777s as prime roles, which is not the case! I only showed what would be the best option for IAF to have both, if the Ch53 would have been in production, I bet IAF would have prefered it because it combines the reliability of an US helicopter, with at least comparable lift capabilities of the Mi 26 in the heavy lift role.

True. However the CH-53 ISN'T in production so one has to say on balance (in a non-hypothetical world) the CH-47F was the better of the two in this role and this competition given what the IAF wants/needs.

Doubtfull, because they will face an operational disadvantage when they have to take the Chinook, because the Ch53 isn't available and the Mi26 might not have the required security of spare supply.
Again, your idea that the Chinnok will be used for frontline missions is flawed, it is meant to be a heavy lift helicopter, nothing more, because all tactical roles fulfilled by Mi 17 in IAF so far and when they will be diverted to IA, IAF will have no tactical use at all.

Indian air force looking at Chinooks

India reportedly will enter into negotiations with Boeing of the United States for acquisition of 15 CH-47D Chinook helicopters.

The Press Trust of India reported that unidentified Indian Defense Ministry officials said talks on the price of the aircraft and procurement details are the result of Boeing emerging as the low bidder in a helicopter procurement competition.

"The Chinook CH-47D has emerged as the lowest bidder in the tender and would be offered the deal to supply 15 of these helicopters to the (Indian air force)," the newspaper reported...

..The IAF determined the lowest bidder by taking into account the cost of operating the helicopter throughout its life span of 30 years and not merely the per unit cost of the participating machines," the officials were quoted as saying.

So still only unofficial sources and changing reasons, why the Ch47 might has won.
