My impression is that Bangladeshis for the most part have no big hate for India....nowhere close compared to Pakistan (even there its not as high as most Indian members seem to believe). Of course it depends on what you define as hate, there are many levels I suppose. When everyone is poor and has a long baggage of bloody history...there is still going to be a huge amount of suspicion at some level that permeates a society.

Most Bangladeshis I have met have some issues with India (the nation) sure...but they get along quite well with Indian folk for the most part...thats why I count many Bangladeshis as some of my best friends. No one likes Jamaati hardcore extremist nutjobs...no one that is educated and decent at least. Yes some prefer AL, some prefer BNP....but at the end of the day everyone agrees it was a mistake of BNP to shut itself off from the last elections thinking various other countries would then put pressure on SHW to conduct them in the caretaker govt way etc. AL now has a mandate and Bangladeshi people for the most part want to get on with improving their lives and building the country....as long as SHW does not mess up badly there will be no major clamour for bringing back the BNP for quite some time.

This is the impression I got from one of my best friends....his family and him are overall BNP supporters (not staunch, but reasonably solid)...his dad is a pretty big business owner there....so they know how to maneuver according to whomever is in power....and so far they have not had any major issues with AL (like there have been in the past and I know about some of the worst episodes). But basically there is no massive rumbling discontent with the AL according to him....and this is a guy that when AL first did those elections was saying how Bangladesh has lost its democracy, power has been usurped...and that the country was going to ruin (saying stuff like for the first time property prices in Dhaka were declining)....and now given time he has quite thoroughly moderated his position on the whole thing. When such a BNP supporter type of person is willing to watch and wait.....masses of Bangladeshis in less favourable economic situation simply do not have the luxury of that kind of time to think and contemplate the BNP/AL.....if AL is delivering to some degree, they will not be in any rush to upset that ticking of the economy and society.....because that can make the situation much worse (because its a gamble). People knowing this are rating according to what they are seeing on the ground.

So lets be patient and see how AL performs.....and how BNP can creep back to political relevance.
