What's new

Italian envoy cannot leave India

How many times India has expelled a western Ambassador in the past?
Not even once, as for as I remember, because India is timid. And then there are pending or probable similar tit for tat actions on similar lines.
Negotiations wont end, because Italy WOULD send a new envoy anyway.
This is not how international diplomacy works!
As for the credibility, Italians reneging on their given pledge to India, they have lost it - hook line and sinker.
So said one of their largest selling newspaper yesterday.

What sort of silly reasoning is this? India hasn't expelled any envoys, so it's timid? Do you have any idea of the seriousness of that message? You think we should expel an envoy every year to prove we are not 'timid'.

India is known as a soft state, a soft belly. whether it is an ambassador or otherwise.

Okey tell me one thing.

Why is India capitulating to Saudi demand of Muslim Indian ambassador only in Saudi?
Considering this, that it is not the case with Americans, Chinese, British, French, who can send their own ethnic stock.
Why is India complying under Saudi diktat?
That also since years and years>?
Grow some spine man.

The objective behind any diplomatic mission is to get the best relations possible. If a muslim ambassador gives them a better comfort in dealing, why not? In any case, India has been lobbying hard to become an OIC member for long. This isn't exactly gonna hurt us it is? And who says India is a 'soft state'. That's the sort of propoganda that BJP tries to keep badjering about. Throughout are history we have been known to be a hard state- never compromising on any issue of importance to us. We may lose a few rounds, but then you really can't win all.

Italy to seek international arbitration on naval guards issue

JERUSALEM: Amidst a diplomatic row with India, Italy has said it is on solid legal ground in seeking international arbitration in the case of the Italian marines charged with killing two Indian fishermen.
"We have juridically solid reasons to proceed in the direction of international arbitration," Italian foreign minister Giulio Terzi told reporters as he arrived at an international conference being hosted by an Israeli think-tank in the city of Herzliya.
"The Indian government is amply apprised of all it needs to know about our reasons, as do many of our partners," he was quoted as saying by media reports.

Already-strained relations between Rome and New Delhi notched up on Monday when the Italian government announced that marines Salvatore Latorre and Massimiliano Girone would remain in Italy and not return to India to face murder charges after being allowed to come home to vote in February's general election by the Supreme Court.

The Apex Court had allowed them to go to Italy to cast their vote in the elections there after Italian ambassador to India Daniele Mancini had given an assurance to send them back.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had yesterday noted that the country is agitated over Italy's action which is "unacceptable" and said the government will pursue diplomatic channels to bring the two marines back.

Taking a tough stand, the prime minister also accused Italy of violating "every rule of diplomatic discourse" and asked it to send back the two marines undergoing trial for killing Indian fishermen, failing which there will be consequences on bilateral ties.

Why is the nation like India complying on a Saudi diktat, which a Chinese-American does not?
Soft nation it is. Other nations do not do this, does it mean they are deficient in maintaining their best relations possible?
So why India alone?
because India is soft state.
On this issue you are on crutches.

Why only India/
Why Saudi does not dictate such terms with others?
They get comfort only from India and not Chile or Argentina?

The story is very old, India has been told to send Muslim only Ambassador to it.
You wont find any Christian, Sikh, Hindu, Budhist Ambassador to Saudi from India.
Not allowed.

I guess Saudia never asked India to send a Muslim envoy. rather it was Indian affort to prove itself more Muslim than Saudia or in diplomatic language India considered it a good step to have good relations as well as positive feelings.

Nothing wrong with that approach by India.

anyway will you come back to the topic

italian navy should establish a naval blockade of india and then conduct a commando action to free the ambassador.

:what: stupid notion.

they dont need to. they said they will take it to international platform

.
This Italian Mob guy is giving statements from Jerusalem :disagree:

Even if Italy seek International arbitration, Diplomatic row which escalated will not be over and will harm the future relations between the two countries.

Better fulfill the agreement which was done before allowing the marines to go to Italy.

Who gives a damn :butcher:

Italy can also complain to UN, but ultimately they have to fulfill the agreement , other wise India will cancel the trade and diplomatic relations.

India have a consulate in Mecca, we are bound to send Muslim envoys for that consulate.

If you have a problem with muslims, that's your problem. Don't superimpose that on national decisions. The US & CHina and Argentiana aren't trying to join OIC, India is. Trying to be pally with the saudis is not wrong. We don't need to make enemies out people we are friendly with and sending a muslim ambassador to a muslim country is not a big issue at all.
