Development of K-15 India’s first SLBM is over, and it is already for Integration into Ins Arihant India’s first nuclear powered submarine said DRDO Chief recently, Sources close to idrw.org have also mentioned that Development of K-4 a long range SLBM based on Agni-III is also nearing completion and after trials will be see first Induction in the second Arihant class submarine which is under development and will be ready in next four years.

K-4 with range of 3500 to 5000km will give the range to hit back even at china and K-15 will be Pak centric with range of 750 to 1000 km, but not yet developed but likely to be based on untested Agni-VI might be the India’s first SLBM with MIRV (Multiple independently target able re-entry vehicle) which will be key missile in the India’s deterrence against Nuke threats and this missile will also enable Indian submarine to be far from Indian coastline in deep ocean even away from the enemy coastline.

New missile likely will have range of 6000 to 8000 km with a heavier payload and with lighter payload will be able to cover 10000 km range, DRDO should focus more on development of MIRV for SLBM along with land based ICBM.2020 should be the time frame where all three missiles should be deployed into India’s nuclear submarines. India plans to field 3 Arihant class submarine by 2020 in Indian navy, work on construction of second Arihant class nuclear submarine has already begun and work on third one will start in end of 2013 or mid 2014 as per sources.
