Israel's defense export sales hit a new record in 2017, reaching a total of $9.2 billion. Sibat, the Defense Ministry’s export organization, released the figures on Wednesday. This is a 40 percent increase over 2016, when defense exports were $6.5 billion.
The main destination for such sales was the Asia and Pacific region, accounting for 58 percent of defense exports last year. This reflects the largest deal in 2017, a $2 billion contract with India by Israel Aerospace Industries for advanced air defense systems, including a deal for the Barak 8 missile interceptor worth $1.6 billion. This sale also includes the missiles, launchers, communications and control equipment and radars.
European customers bought 21 percent of the defense exports, followed by North America, Africa and Latin America.
